DJ Augustin 2010-2011 Season
Augustin in his rookie season was so promising... came off the bench playing about 27mpg. Averaged 11.8ppg 3.5apg and shot 43.9% from the three. He looked like a promising young point guard with a lot of potential. He showed flashes of being a solid starting point guard in this league...
Then with all that, looking forward to his sophomore season, he took a big step back. his minutes declined, his overall fg% below 40%, ft% went from 89.3% to 77.9%, points, etc...
Now with Raymond Felton gone, do you think Augustin will take full advantage of this opportunity? He has a good shot at starting... will he start? will he earn his minutes?
what do you think his numbers will look like?
As a fan of Augustin im pushing for him to have a breakout season. i think he will prove to be a solid starting point guard for the bobcats...
30mpg/14ppg/5.9apg/45% fg/40% 3fg/87% ft

I know he's a starter in this league,i hope he can find his mojo starting under L "play my way or the highway" B.I'm predicting averages of 16pts,6ast,3rb,1stl at around 32mpg.Percentages of 45% fg,40% 3fg,90% ft.

Sounds about right. I see him around 16-17.
Hope he's durable though.

Re: DJ Augustin 2010-2011 Season
Our starting PG last season put up:
33:36
12.1 pts on 10.6 fga's and 45.9/38.5/76.3 % shooting
3.6 rebounds
5.6 assists
1.5 steals
2.1 turn overs
The dynamic of this team isn't likely to change much this coming season as far as team mates are concerned so I don't think there will be many more shots coming DJ's way, so numbers looking something like the ones above would be great return and something to build on going forward.

Re: DJ Augustin 2010-2011 Season
I don't see many teams liningup to make an offer for DJ, unlike the feeding frenzy hat happened once Collison was available. DJ has skills, no doubt. When he's confident, you see glimpses of his potential to lead a team. He's a streaky shooter, but when hot he smokes. However, his defense has generally been poor. He gets swallowed up on the P&R, and suffers against larger 1's overall. His ability to run a team and distribute as a starter is highly questionable. He can get penetration into the lane but is not a creator. His court vision is more limited.
Could he improve on these? Sure, although his height and build will always limit him. Yet, we didn't see that improvement in year 2. With more time he may get back on track to being a very productive reserve, but I just don't see him producing at a high level in the NBA.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Feeding frenzy?
What are you talking about? All they got for him was Trevor freaking Ariza!! If that is a feeding frenzy then the NOH must be anorexic.

Re: DJ Augustin 2010-2011 Season
Problem with DJ last season was confidence. He lost it in the first ten games of last season and never recovered. His own doing though because he showed up to camp out of shape and had to play catch up which carried into the season.
A pro athlete especially a second year pro trying to make a name for himself shows up to camp out of shape, you seriously have to question his dedication. Is he committed to getting better? I don't know but players like this worry me. If he is here, hopefully a lesson was learned that you have to work your ass off during the off season if you want to compete in this league.
I am willing to give him a second chance provided we hear he is in the best shape of his life and worked all off season on his game. We shall see.
Curious about DJ's summer so I just did a google search and found a very nice article about him at his bball camp in New Orleans from a few days ago...

Even with a busy camp schedule, Augustin manages to wake up at 5 every morning to lift weights and prepare for basketball season. Point guard Raymond Felton signed as a free agent with the New York Knicks last month, and Augustin is preparing for what could be a transition from backup to starter.
"I have a good opportunity to be a starter this year, and I'm going to go into training camp and work hard as I can to be a starter, " Augustin said. "I'm going to do whatever it takes to help the team."

Agreed that he was rocked at the start of the season and it seemed that once he was in that dark place LB wouldn't let him come out. Playing a kid spot mins here and there or for the final 2mins of each qtr isn't really a way to bring him along.
Not sure I agree with him showing up out of shape though. Where do you get that idea from?
I think I remember reading some where that he went back to Texas last summer to complete college. He was an Academic All-American as well as a great ball player with a GPA of something like 3.7 IIRC. Maybe he focused too much on closing that chapter of his life last summer?

I think LB will start DJ to start the season. But if the Cats start off poorly in the first 15 games, I can absolutely see Livingston taking the starting job. Really depends on if DJ steps up.

LB mentioned it either after a practice during camp or after one of our crappy November games. He talked about conditioning and how much harder DJ needs to work. My mistake, I should not put DJ and Diaw in the same category because Boris was a fat slob when he reported to camp, DJ was not.

I didn't even know they played until reading this board today. It is absolutely mind boggling if he is as fat as you guys are describing him. And believe me, I don't doubt you guys. In the next CBA the owners must be able to void contracts for worthless non-caring players like Diaw. MJ must be furious.

Re: DJ Augustin 2010-2011 Season
For DJ to be successfull he's got to be better at being a pass first guard that is able to consistently knock down open shots. He cannot get beat off the dribble too often either because he's already a small player that will give up height and strength to bigger point guards. DJ may never be a great defender, so to compensate he NEEDS to develop into a great offensive player. You don't really see great small defensive PG's but you do see great small offensive ones like Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, Tiny Archibald, Steve Nash, and more recently Aaron Brooks. DJ missed alot of open teamates, he has to correct that. So if he can be a nightmare on the offensive end, making plays for others like Nash getting into the lane whenever he pleases like Zeke, knocking down shots when open he'll be ok.

So DJ has to be some sort of combination of Nash, Isiah, Stockton to be "ok".

John Stockton usually made the all NBA defensive team while in his prime. Nobody was more competitive than Zeke and, Tiny/Nash were/are fearless players with tremendous amounts of confidence every time they stepped on the court. DJ is not in the same league as those players. He does not believe in himself like those players did. He lost his confidence early on last season and never gained it back.

He's not going to be those guys or a combination of those guys, but if he can get better at some of the areas they excelled at he'd be ok is what I meant.
