OT: Favre predictions for next season

Post#1 » by TurdFerguson3 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 2:51 am

Thought we might as well have fun what with all the classic favre news. So what do you think will happen for him this season/what do you want to happen this season? Something to look back at when this season ends

I think green bay will win both games against the vikings but the game at minnesota is gonna be a very tight and close game. favre will manage another good year of stats but lose in the playoffs

I want the vikes to win the wild card and the packers to dominate them in the nfc championship. donald driver with 4 TD passes

I'm not going to make an specific predictions, but I'll agree with Luke (I believe it was him) who said that a lot of teams are going to be blitz-heavy against them. Even willing to give up a big play or two just to get at Favre.

I'll be willing to say the Packers will have a better record than the Vikings when they actually prove it. Favre played out of his mind last year and the Vikings were a damn good team.

Favre also absolutely embarrassed the Packers and their defense when we played them.

He won't have as good of a year as last year. The guy has a CAREER 86.6 QB rating and was 107+ last year, with the best TD/INT ratio of his career (at age 40). He hasn't strung together two good years in a row in a while, and he's coming in with an iffy ankle and by his own admission (and he looks it right now) he's about 15 pounds overweight. I see him high 80's to low 90's QB rating, maybe high 20's TD's and low teens picks, completion % around 65%. Still a solid season, but last year was a dream season for him.

The division is a toss up even with the Vikings having Favre. Last season means not much in the NFL, this is a league where on average 6 out of 12 playoff teams swap in/out each season. The Packers alone have went from 13-3 to 6-10 to 11-5 the last three.

Well, first thing I'd do is look at the schedule as it compares to last season. I'll bold the games I would flag as potential problems due to good coverage guys in the backfield, excellent pass rushing threats, and/or outdoor late season games.

2009:

@ Cleveland
@ Detroit
vs San Fran
vs Green Bay
@ St. Louis
vs Baltimore
@ Pitt - L
@ Green Bay
vs Detroit
vs Seattle
vs Chicago
@ Arizona - L
vs Cinci
@ Carolina - L
@ Chicago - L

vs NY Giants

7 games

2010:

@ New Orleans
vs Miami
vs Detroit
@ NY Jets
vs Dallas
@ Green Bay
@ New England

vs Arizona
@ Chicago
vs Green Bay
@ Washington

vs Buffalo
vs NY Giants
vs Chicago
@ Philly

@ Detroit

11 games.

Now that's totally subjective, but looking at the list of potential problem games for Favre (I'm including GB because of Woodson, Jenkins, Collins and Matthews, though if Capers plays the same vanilla style as last year they'll get chewed up) I'd say he could be in for a tough one this season.

KC Joyner did a study and found that the Viking WRs will be playing against much stiffer competition on the outside this season, and when they went against top CBs last year they didn't perform well.

My prediction is that at some point this season, the streak will come to an end...

If he's smart, he'll lean on Peterson a lot more this year, but that will happen over his dead body.

Last year, he was hell bent on getting revenge on Ted.
THis year, he doesn't seem like he really wants to play. That could lead to disaster. Lets hope it does for our sake. I want to get a win vs him this year badly.

Well, obviously not a good as last year since that was arguably the best season of his career. He'll still be pretty good as the Vikings have a good team around him. I think people are really overselling what the Saints did to him, he got beat up but the Vikings offense still tore them up pretty good and they should of won that game.

Yes, this year feels like there is some sort of obligation to play that isn't driven from within. Whether it is to get away from home or because those players cohered him... there is something about it that seems to be pointing to disaster... hopefully the meltdown happens at Lambeau as the Pack is crushing the Vikes week 6...

And they should have lost that Ravens game last year.
