Lakers vs Grizzlies Trade Now Complete
-Grizzlies Get: Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Marc Gasol, a 2008 1st-round draft pick (Donte Greene) and a 2010 1st round draft pick (Greivis Vasquez)
-Lakers Get: Pau Gasol, 2010 2nd-round draft pick (Devin Ebanks).
In my attempt to pump some pre-season life into the Lakers board I stumbled across this. I had no idea that Ebanks was part of the Grizzlies trade (the draft pick that is) and thus his signing marks the completion of the trade.
Depending on how Vasquez and Greene turn out as players, this could be a fairly even matched trade under the assumption that Marc matches some of his brothers numbers, the only unevenness coming in the immediacy of the Lakers domination as a result of the acquisition of Pau.

Obviously this trade was collusion between the teams in order to land Devin Ebanks on the Lakers
I hope this is what people are saying a season or two from now

Damn guys, imagine if we could've convinced them to let us keep marc....Once Pau retires(I'm 100% sure he'll retire a Laker) we could've just switched him out for Marc

Things are seriously boring right now... start the season!
btw, I think Marc Gasol would've been awesome for us, in a totally different way.

If Ebanks turns out to be a second round steal ala Redd or Ellis, this will be the most lopsided deal in the history of the NBA.

To this date Kobe for Vlade was and probably always will be the most lopsided trade in NBA History. And I think I heard rumors that the Grizz really wanted Sun Yue in that trade and it was our idea to add Marc...I could be wrong, but doubt it

I heard Memphis pulled the trigger because we added Marc. They'd be watching him play for years in Memphis when Pau was there.

Did Marc ever play in Bball in High school during his time living in Memphis?

While he spent almost all of his childhood in the Barcelona area, he moved as a teenager with his parents to the Memphis suburb of Germantown, Tennessee in 2001, after his older brother was drafted and signed by the Memphis Grizzlies, who finalized their move from Vancouver just after the draft. Gasol played high school basketball at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis.[1]He was named Division 2's Mr. Basketball in 2003 following a senior season in which he averaged 26 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks per game.
I've heard numerous times he practiced in the Grizzlies facility and stuff as well. They saw him up close and personal for a while.

I know you love Kobe, but there have been worse. McHale and Parish for a sad sack like Joe Barry Carroll was a crime against the Lakers.

Good point! And yes I do Love Kobe (now) forgive me for saying this, but I was pissed when we traded Vlade for this kid. I just thought Vladi should retire a Laker I hated seeing him in a Kings uniform.

Wow okay thanks... That explains a lot. It seems the Lakers and Memphis were not sleeping on Marc. I guess maybe West had either heard about Marc thru the grapevine after he got to Memphis. It seems West he had Marc in his back pocket all along. NICE!
Good GMs in the NBA have to be severely patient and almost sinister i.e. Mitch, West, Riley and welcome to the fold Larry Bird LOL for landing Collison.

5 Worst Trades Per Dime Mag
http://dimemag.com/2010/08/5-worst-nba- ... -all-time/
5. Date: January 22, 1999
-Bulls Get: Roy Rogers and a 2000 2nd-round draft pick (Jake Voskuhl)
-Rockets Get: Scottie Pippen.
Honestly, it didn’t really amount to anything for either squad. The Bulls were in the process of breaking up the six-ring dynasty, and the Rockets got Scottie just as he started to hit the down slope of his career (and only kept him for one lockout-shortened season). Still, you don’t trade a Hall of Famer/Top 50 player of all-time for basically nothing.
4. Date: February 1, 2008
-Grizzlies Get: Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Marc Gasol, a 2008 1st-round draft pick (Donte Greene) and a 2010 1st round draft pick (Greivis Vasquez)
-Lakers Get: Pau Gasol, 2010 2nd-round draft pick (Devin Ebanks).
This trade helped boost L.A. back into championship front-runners; they have been to the NBA Final every year since Pau has joined the team. But it doesn’t look completely terrible now that Pau’s little brother is panning out pretty well for the Grizz, so unlike the other trades on this list, Memphis didn’t exactly get nothing in return.
3. Date: January 15, 1965
-Warriors Get: Connie Dierking, Paul Neumann, Lee Shaffer and cash.
-76ers Get: Wilt Chamberlain
Whenever you trade a player who averaged 38.9 points and 23.5 rebounds per game the previous season, then you have to make this list.
2. Date: June 16, 1975
-Bucks Get: Junior Bridgeman, Dave Meyers, Elmore Smith and Brian Winters
-Lakers Get: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Walt Wesley.
Don’t even look at the names, just look at the numbers. The Bucks got four players who combined scored 32,744 career points, while trading just one player who totaled 38,387 career points.
1. Date: September 9, 1980
-Warriors Get: Two 1980 1st-round draft picks (Rickey Brown and Joe Barry Carroll)
-Celtics Get: Robert Parish and a 1980 1st-round draft pick (Kevin McHale).
This is like something out of a video game. The Celtics should have got fined for armed robbery. How do you steal two NBA legends for nothing?

As much as people cry and gripe about this trade, Marc Gasol is no scrub. Memphis has still been a relatively competitive team despite the deal.

Why is Donte Greene not in Memphis? He wouldve been a nice backup to Rudy Gay.

Re: Lakers vs Grizzlies Trade Now Complete
Wondering if the trade was never made what wouldve happened? LA was top 3 WC when Bynum went down, so?
Probably still in playoffs but an easy out in 08?
Kwame expires, M Gasol comes over and LA has Bynum, Odom MG front line? Maybe make 2nd rd, WC finals?
What about last year? The west seemed pretty easy. Clearly would not have beaten Boston but wouldve gotten past the West in my opin.
Of course, Kobe couldve opted out and changed the course of Laker history, and perhaps his legacy too.

Ironically, after going to Houston in a draft day (abouts) trade, he was sent to Sac Town for Ron Artest.
In theory, Greene going to Memphis led to Artest going to Houston and (as I see it) him signing with LAL in the Ariza swap.

no...
jazz trading moses malone for the 1978 1st pick, then trading the 1978, 1979 and 1981 1st pick for gail goodrich. the 1979 pick turned out to be magic johnson is the most lopsided trade in history.
