MMA/NBA fans which mma fighter do you liken your fave nba

Post#1 » by akola » Thu Aug 19, 2010 7:18 pm

...MMA/NBA fans which mma fighter do you liken your favorite nba to?

I don't know if there are many MMA fans in here but I wanted to ask which mma fighter do you think closely resembles (skills, personality, etc. in their sport) your favorite nba player?

I'll start of by saying the obvious:

Fedor = Kobe, both are old but are still the baddest men on the planet.

Brock Lesnar = Lebron, young athletes unstoppable athletes that everyone just loves to hate but are pretty the future of the sport.

Lebron=Tito Ortiz

When he wins he acts arrogant and classes, and when he loses he is filled with excuses about injuries

Actually you do, since they're pretty much polar opposites. Durant is a workaholic that always gives 100%, Anderson Silva is notoriously famous for doing as little as humanly possible.

Chael Sonnen = Kevin Garnett

Jon Fitch = Tim Duncan

Dominick Cruz = Manu Ginobili

Jon Jones = Lebron James

Shogun = Carmelo Anthony

Anderson and Durant is not bad IMO because Durant basically gets half his points on free throws and Anderson does as little as possible to win. And everyone knows Anderson's work ethic is incredible--the guy walks around at 210-215 and cuts weight to 185 and his cardio is still excellent.

Anderson's work ethic isn't close to incredible, but we're speaking of "fight night" performance, not what they do in the gym. Durant always comes out and does his best, as you said yourself, Silva is the polar opposite. He does the absolute minimum required to win.

I like the Fitch/Duncan and Shogun/Melo comparisons though, they make a lot of sense to me.

I get confused at Sonnen / Garnett again. Maybe we look at different things, but the problem I have with this comparison is pretty much this; Sonnen is a perfect sportsman, a gentleman (even if he likes promoting fights) and always gives credit where credit is due. Even after beating Anderson for 4.5 rounds, and losing to a lucky submission, he was still being a class act. Garnett... well, we all know what kind of punk he is.

My favorite MMA fighter right now is Jon "Bones" Jones and I would compare him to Kevin Durant right now, a young up-and-comer who will be a future champion.

Class Act :D

The same Sonnen that said Lance Armstrong gave himself cancer.

The same Sonnen that said if Dana White stepped back from the podium during the post-fight conference that he would fight Anderson Silva right there.

The same Sonnen that said he had never lost a round in his entire career.

The same Sonnen that said he was 41-0 and in amateur boxing and he knew Anderson was not going to be the first man to outstrike him.

Besides, when has KG trashed someone after he lost a game?

I Agree. Both are young, talented, alot of potential to be great but unproven. They even have the same long lanky body type.

Pau Gasol = BJ Penn, has all the skills, loses but gets back up, champion.

Apparently the Durant/Silva comparison does need an explanation; both nicknames are from the Arachnid family.
