Mayo trade question

Whatup Grizz fans? How available is Mayo?

What about Collison and Thornton for Mayo? This assumes that you settle the deal with Henry.

We need a second option/ starting caliber guard/ kickout option/ secondary ball handler.

You guys need a PG and a bench scorer. It seems like you have enough firepower for on you starting squad. I know Mayo is a good guy, a solid starter, and a high pick, but it seems like these 2 guys fit your needs. Someone to feed Gasol and Randolph, and get Rudy in his spots while playing good D and pushing the pace when needed.

Thornton is an absolute killer, and I love him, I'm just not sure of him being a full time starter, he's more of a microwave type guy. But he is fantastic at it already. Take a look at his numbers, he is already as good as J.R. Smith numbers wise.

Let me know your thoughts.

I think alot of Grizzlies fans would like this trade, but personally, I want to see OJ play a bigger role for the Grizzlies and help this team reach the next level. I don't want to see him traded.

I would take this trade for Memphis. Both Collison and Thornton are the real deal in my opinion.

This would be a pretty ood trade for the Grizz but I still wouldnt do it 'cause we might regret it later. We should still give Mayo some time to prove himself

I'm glad people don't think this trade is completely ridiculous even if some folks wouldn't make it. I think it benefits both teams although Thornton is a local kid, and that might hurt, and as I said it seems like Mayo has been pretty popular in Memphis.

That said, I like Mayo, but I don't see alot of potential there. What you see is likely what you get. I think what you get is fantastic (great handles, nice shot, bball i.q., maturity), and I would be ecstatic to have it, but I just don't see upside. If the unwillingness to trade him comes from a willingess to see how he would improve, then i just don't see it.

I think his 3% would go up if he had a better guard to get him open looks. Right now he is the 3rd option, with 3 other really strong scorers on the squad. I love this kid's bball i.q. and while he may never be an absolute stopper due to height, i think he could be a fantastic team defender which is honestly more important.

Collison averaged 19 and 9 as a starter and Thornton scored 14.5 points per game in just 26 minutes a game. I consider Mayo to be a more complete player than Thornton (better defensive fundamentals, handles, and passing) but he is not a Bentley compared to two Accords. I'd argue that these two pieces fit better, and that the Mayo's ceiling is low (which doesn't matter since he is already a great player).

Jeff - it's not at all a bad offer, just don't expect Grizz fans to be "all over it". One thing that fans of other teams tend not to take into consideration is a player's production beyond the stat line. Mayo is a player who can be underestimated if you only look at his stat line. IMO, this is a deal best left undone for BOTH teams.

That's more than fair GGF. Mayo seems to be a good guy, and a good teammate, so I am sure that any trade of him that isn't an obvious steal wil lbe difficult for grizz fans. I agree that Mayo's value isn't just in the stat line because his skills and his willingness to be a good teammate are a real benefit to the Grizz. He just seems to be your best piece if you are going to get a good p.g. The other folks are either at positions that are hard to replace (Gasol) or just signed a new contract (Gay). Randolph also looks to close to a new deal.

On paper it is a fair deal. Collison playmaking and Thornton scoring can replace OJ Mayo since he can do both. However, I rather keep OJ Mayo who can be a special player, and get a bigger PG to compliment him like Shaun Livingston.

Mayo is Grizz's franchise player and he can be as good as anyone like VC T-Mac...
They don't need a PG despearately because Conley can handle it just well enough.
They are not trading Mayo unless they are landing an All-Star

Sorry to revive a semi-dead thread, but I am also curious as to how coveted Mayo is to the Memphis FO. I know there were rumors of the Mayo for Ellis trade, so is it possible that they aren't looking into keeping him since Gay just got his big deal and Gasol is also likely to get a big deal?

If so, I think Larry Brown would love to have him in Charlotte due to his versatility. Would Memphis be amenable to a trade of(and please don't kill me if it isn't something you guys like, I don't know how much you like your players):

Charlotte out: Stephen Jackson, DJ Augustin, Gerald Henderson, *possibly a future first*
Memphis out: OJ Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet, Xavier Henry

Conley could also fit salarywise in the place of Thabeet or Henry, I just went with those because a) we need a defensive big and wing depth and b)Memphis doesn't seem to favor Thabeet much with Marc in town, and the FO doesn't want to give Henry the 120%.

If not, what sort of trade would you guys like that centered around Jackson and Mayo?
