The below article was put up a couple of hours ago and it implies that the reporter spoke to Bogut today. There's a bit more detail about the elbow rehab - still not great news - but it does contradict what he said here on TV last night regarding not being able to shoot.

"My goal is making it to training camp. I'm still working out now. I'm in shape," Bogut said. "I'm just trying to get the last couple degrees in my elbow (to straighten it). It's getting better every day, but sometimes, no matter how much you rehab it, it goes on its own."

The hand is fine. "I can dribble. I can handle the ball," he said.

Taking shots beyond layups, however, is problematic. "I used to be able to take 600 shots (in practice). Now the elbow gets agitated," said Bogut, who estimates he can shoot between 50 and 100. "I have to be careful I don't overdo things."

THIS IS NOT GOOD...at all my friends!

Instead of wasting time with the 3rd PG we should be going after a viable backup Center here. This is not good at all. I feared this.. we are lucky he is not done for his career. I am not being melodramatic here at all.

I must hold out hope and faith that the Big Aussie can get back to us and be in one piece for the start of the season. Hang in there Tiny, we might need you and Larry Sanders yet!

Yeah that's more what I expected. I'm sure he's feeling a bit impatient with it but it's not a horrible place for it to be right now given how long we've still got before the season. Plus my experience with injuries of that nature is that when you get over the hump they tend to improve in a hurry from there, though I've never had a dislocated elbow.

The main concern with elbow injuries is ending up with a stiff elbow/limited range of motion long term; it sounds as though he has already avoided this if he is just working on the last few degrees, going by the most recent press statement (which may have been prompted by the bucks' management / pr experts), so that is good news.

It may be that he is hyper-keen after missing the end of last season and pushed doing a lot of free throw practice (which I gather he needs) too early, and his interview reflects his impatience with not being able to to practice/train at the maximum rather than indicating any concern about being fit for the start of next season. As jez says it suggests his elbow is not quite completely healed but I wouldn't think fluid/inflammation in the elbow will be a long-term problem; it may restrict him doing things which put repetitive strain on the elbow (like free-throw practice) for a while. It might not affect him much if he was actually playing a game even now; 600 free throws seems rather a lot and human physiology doesn't cope with such repetitive stress at the best of times.

I've been pretty negative towards Bogut's ability to come back at 100% because I went thru a very similar, although actually more serious injury than Bogut. I bent my arm backwards due a fall and severed both ligaments including an elbow dislocation. Hearing him talk about getting the last few degrees sounds eerily similar to what I was going thru.

I had an automated chair that I sat in for an hour every day for almost 3 months that would straighten and bend my arm for me. The doctors told me at the beginning I should only expect an 80% recovery, but I did my rehab dilligently for almost 12 months and got back to 95%.

But I have a ton of calcification around the bone and every once in awhile I get a chip that falls off and causes immense pain. There's also a ton of scar tissue still in my elbow, I get in the habit of massaging it and doing rehab exercises still today, even though my injury was 5 years ago. If I ever get a little extra coin, I'd like them to go in an clean it up one day.

But I'm basically guaranteed to have arthritis in my elbow at some point, so it's never going to be a non-issue for me.

I'm hoping and praying for the best for Bogut, but I've always felt I would be pretty surprised if he was ready to roll for traning camp and the season.

If anyone can do it though, its Bogey, he's a warrior.

I'm actually encouraged by that. He's just being cautious and there's still a while to go before the season starts. As long as he stays in shape it should be fine.

WSSP has taken this interview, transcribed by this thread, picked up by CBS, RealGM Wiretap and USA Today and this is what NBC has decided to report

The gruesome right elbow injury suffered by Andrew Bogut last year could keep him out for the first month of the new NBA season due to fluid buildup

WSSP picked it up and put it on their facebook

ESPN referenced RealGM as a news source. :)

Andrew Bogut has been recovering from a horrific on-court injury in April that left him with a broken hand, sprained wrist and dislocated elbow.

And according to RealGM via way of CBS Sports and BrewHoop, in a recent interview on Australian TV, Bogut wasn't so sure about his status to start the season.

I don't see the issue. We only need him taking 15-20 shots per game. He's fine.

For a game he is fine sure, but shooting is a lot about repetition and muscle memory. This will probably hurt his FT %, but it sounds as if his defense and post presence won't be as effected.

The good news here is Bogut's shooting range is about 5 feet anyway.
