Sonny Weems will be better than Demar

Post#1 » by Mack11 » Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:44 am

Everything Demar can do Weems can do better.. He has a better mid range game, athletic, can d up and has better handles.. can play the SG and the SF not to mention he's only 24. Demar still needs ways to go before he's considered a starter and i have no clue why people on here are just handing him the starting position when Weems has clearly shown that he's the superior player. Perhaps because we drafted him and everyone is hoping for the best but in reality Weems is getting slept on.

did you watch much of the summer league? I honestly don't see all that much in Weems apart from bringing some energy and scoring off the bench. Derozan looked like a stud in the making- he was dominant without really trying.

Sonny needs to get to the free-throw line.

I think there's a chance you could be right, but I think DeMar is more likely to end up being the better player.

God stop comparing the two and just hope that they both grow together and become DOMINANT together.

Retards like you push our players away by alienating them. The team needs more talent, not less.

I'd give DeMar another year to see if his work ethic actually translates to improvement. Right now DeMar has the slight advantage because he has that one ability that seems to put the elite guards ahead of the pack and that's the ability to get to the line.

Do people not realize athleticism isn't just regulated by vertical? It seems like Weems can get up higher but DeRozan is far away the better athlete. DeRozan is much more fluid and has much better lateral quickness. Don't think DeRozan's first step is too impressive but that's also better. Those wanting Weems to get to the line more, it's not that he doesn't want to, he just doesn't have it in him. Think about this, yes Weems has a better mid range shot, but despite that, DeRozan scored more per 36 minutes. A shot is MUCH easier to develop than the ability to drive to the hole.

Weems does not have a better midrange game. He has a better midrange jumper when open; there's a big difference.

You may be right about the rest, though you also must remember Weems is, what, 24? There's no way he was at Demar's level at age 20.

Actually they both have prototypical SG size and athleticism and it would be a stretch to play them anywhere else. Though I still think Weems should start at SF this year just to put the best five guys on the floor.

I agree Sonny has more skills, but he has a bad case of Jamario-itis....he's afraid to attack the rim in a crowd.

Sonny does have it in him, but doesn't want to for some odd reason. I've seen Sonny being able beat his man off the dribble plenty of times, but when he gets inside the paint with the help defense coming over, he shies away from the contact and resets the play by kicking the ball back out to the perimeter. Sonny can finish the play by making a poster, but chooses not to.

:o

Demar is still raw.

He is ridiculous at coming off screens and knocking down jumpers, his first step is better, and he gets to the line at will, he is great at creating contact and almost finishing for the and 1. He has a great inside outside game, while Weems needs space to hit jumpers.

Weems came off the bench fresh and had the green light agaimst tired players and 2nd units (ala Jose vs TJ), DeMar was the 5th option playing with the starters against starters. if DeMar came off the bench I think he would score at will.

Weems is much closer to his ceiling than DeMar is, DD isnt even close to his ceiling yet, Weems has flashes, but DeMar can go on a run by himself or change the tempo of the game or dominate a game for stretches, you wait, I like Weems, but its really not close.

Just because he did it a couple of times doesn't mean he can consistently do it like DeRozan can, and that's part of having a driving game; the ability to maneuver around the defenders within the paint. People don't realize this isn't an easy gift to have. Sonny doesn't have it, DeRozan does.

If only Weems stopped chucking (like he did in SL) and actually tried to attack the basket.

DeMar is without a doubt miles ahead of Sonny in terms of being able to adjust what the defense is being thrown at him in mid air and being able to finish or draw the contact. However, Sonny can get to the free throw line when he wants to, though I think just needs to overcome the fear of playing through contact.

Sure he could do that, try and draw fouls not as successfully as DeRozan does, maybe half the time fumble the ball because he isn't good at maneuvering around the basket and he won't be getting superstar calls either, over nailing the mid range jumpshot that he's even better at.
