Prime Marbury vs. Prime Iverson

Discuss. I personally feel Prime Marbury > Prime Iverson (will expand upon this later).

This is just disrespectful to the Answer. Allen Iverson is clearly better and it's not close. AI was argurably the best player in the league in his prime Philly days. Marbury was good, but hella overrated. He couldn't even dream of taking that **** Philly team to the Finals in 2001.

AI is one of the most overrated players ever imo. He didn't deserve most of them. AI was the better scorer, but if I had a good offensive cast, I'd take Marbury. If I had a bunch of guys who can't score for anything, I'd take AI.

How's he overrated?

In his era, he brought a decent team to the finals in an era of tough playoff match ups, he's face Bibby/Webber kings ( I think) KB24/Shaq (Prime) and has face other great teams too, if anything I'd say Marbury is overrated - I loved him in Phoenix but he's mentally (Please Use More Appropriate Word), he's cancer in a locker room.

Steph was a cancer in NY, but AI would be in that same position. He just isn't effective in a team concept. Believe it or not, Step was a better on court teammate and playmaker than AI was.

Sure, but A.I scored much better and had killer crossovers that would lead to open buckets. Plus..

Philly.

Allen Iverson | Dikembe Mutombo | Aaron McKie | Eric Snow | Tyrone Hill | George Lynch | Matt Geiger | Rodney Buford | Jumaine Jones | Todd MacCulloch | Kevin Ollie | Roshown McLeod | Raja Bell | Anthony Miller

L.A.

Shaquille O'Neal | Kobe Bryant | Derek Fisher | Rick Fox | Horace Grant | Isaiah Rider | Ron Harper | Brian Shaw | Robert Horry | Stanislav Medvedenko | Tyronn Lue | Devean George | Greg Foster | Mark Madsen |

And he led that team to the NBA finals, c'mon now.

He deserves credit for what he did that year, but that team played in a crap East and made it that far largely due to it's defense.

True that, you said Marbury is a better passer? He is, but A.I as an SG in 01-02 = 5.5 APG, as the leading scorer that's good.

It's not just passing, he shoots way too much and is not nearly efficient enough to work in any offense unless the whole offense is Allen Iverson isos all game. Shooting something like 23- 28 shots in a game and having a TS% of about 49% to 51% isn't gonna cut it.

I really disagree with the lead to a finals. There's no question he did, but he had to be gifted a series against the Bucks, from the league to do it. That series was worse than King Lakers a year later.
