Updated Trade for Pacers

Post#1 » by troybiles » Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:34 am

This post was revised due to the fact of some updated considerations to teams other than the Magic.
If there is a suggestion, then please feel free to add to it or change it up some. I want to view this from a fair point of view.
Of course, a trade wouldn't be a trade unless it involves a 4 team trade. The 4 team trade is between Orlando, Denver, Indiana, and Sacramento
Orlando
Gives - VC, Pietrus, Bass, and Gortat (Possibly some Draft Picks as well to help complete the trade)
Receives - Melo, Foster, and Dunleavy
Summary: Melo would definitely be an upgrade, Foster would be a replacement for Gortat, and Dunleavy (expiring contract 10.5mil) would be ok and would probably be 2nd to 3rd option at SF, but being 6' 9" would still be ok defensively. Magic would still be a very deep team with the possibility to still go after CP3 next year or the year after.

Denver
Gives - Melo, JR Smith
Receives - Gortat, Granger, and Pietrus
Summary: Granger helps with the loss of Melo by not having much of a drop off, Gortat can be the starting Center which would allow Nene to go back to his PF position. Pietrus would fill the role that JR Smith held.

Indiana
Gives - Granger and Dunleavy
Receives - VC and Thompson and several Draft Picks and (+3mil Cash for VC’s expiring Contract)
Summary: Indiana does have Paul George now, so the loss of Granger would not be as bad as it would have been last year. Indiana, of course, gets the worst of the deal as far as players being swapped. They would not have a large contract anymore with Granger's being the last major sized contract left. They would get a temporary upgrade this year at the SG position with VC and his expiring contract. VC as his age is still an upgrade over Rush. Thompson would give them a PF that could have potential to play some good minutes, and who knows what his potential could top out at when given the minutes. Now Indiana would receive a couple draft picks, at least from Orlando.

Sacramento
Gives - Thompson
Receives - JR Smith and Draft Picks (whatever Orlando does not give to Indiana)
Summary: Sacramento is stacked with Big men and they need a good SG. JR Smith would be a very good pick up that can shoot the three ball and fill one of the last real pieces that Sacramento needs.

Money wise it works pretty well. I see at least 3 teams benefiting from it. Indiana could really benefit from the draft picks to build a young and talented team through the draft.

We ain't gonna trade Granger unless he is in a package that gets us Dwight Howard. Orlando couldn't land Melo for those scrubs they are giving up.

Look, the whole point in moving Granger is to help with the salary. Yes, I agree that it is not the best of trades for Indiana, but your salaries would be down by a lot. No one would be commited for long term, so that with the new collective bargaining agreement the players available then would be a lot cheaper. You would have money with VC's contract coming off the books, and still have some young talent, plus a couple 1st and 2nd round picks for the next couple of years to go with your own picks. The picks alone can net talent from other teams trying to cut salary. Indiana would be a good state financially to go after anything they want to place around a good solid young team. That is all I am saying. I am not trying to screw Indiana out of Granger. I just see that sometimes you have to go a step back to go forward. I am a Magic Fan, but my second team is the Pacers. I was all about Reggie Miller. I do think that Thompson would be a great fit and would strengthen this team.

Money problems? Our owners is a billionaire, we're not trying to cut salary. If you wasn't such a Magic homer you would realize how stupid you look postin these trades. Go look at the post on Orlando's board even they are sayin Indiana wouldn't do it. I think you meant to say you hate the Pacers.

The Pacers already don't have any players signed long term, except Danny and he's anything but overpaid.

Why is it everyone seems to think we should give up Granger for some team's over the hill vets, mediocrities, and just plain trash?

because Indiana is poor and can't afford to pay their players. We should also be a lottery team like we have been our entire exsistence or back when we joined the league in 2006.

First, Granger's contract is not bad. And the Pacers would not simply trade their franchise player simply to save the money. Paul George is talented, but it's too early to say if he'll become an all star. It's never easy to develop a player to an all star.

Second, the Nuggets aren't rushing to sell Carmelo, they want to set their GM done first. At the same time, the Magic already said they are not going after Anthony, so why in the world are you doing, suggesting these silly trade idea?

Third, if you really are a Pacers fan, then look at the salary next season. The Pacers would have plenty of space to chase some other PF better than Jason Thompson in the free agents, like Al Horford, Zach Randolph, David West, Tyson Chandler.

Everyone calm down for goodness sakes. If there's a bad trade idea, just post "IBTL" or something. That's better than violating TOS.
