He doesn't have the voice that Chicky Baby had. Like Snaq said, maybe the next Jack Haley....

I could definitely see him being an analyst or an announcer...just not one of the greats. And as much as it's in vogue to trash magicontinues for his smilies...I have to agree, Luke speaks too slowly.

His dad, IMO, was a hilarious announcer. Don't think Luke would even have that sort of sense of humor.

I see Luke as a decent color guy, but great play by play guys are ultra rare.

Forgive me for not even bothering to read your post but your title to this thread was so assinine I had to log in and quickly tell you keep the late great Chick Hearns name out of your mouth when comparing him to anyone please, MAYBE Luke can be the next Stu Lantz or Bill Walton when it comes to color commentators but keep Chickys name out your mouth son.

The other difference is I can stand listening to Luke talk without wanting to punch him in the mouth.

Actually, I'm not sure if anyone else here remembers, but last season Luke did a few games as the color guy on radio while he was rehabbing. I just so happened to catch 'em, and I must say, I was very impressed!

When listening to Luke do color commentary, it becomes very evident that his basketball IQ is simply off the charts. When the Lakers would have a defense breakdown and give up a basket, Luke was able to analyse and describe it in the most technical way possible, so much so that even a hardcore hoops junkie like myself found it challenging to comprehend to the fullest. I loved it! I personally want an announcer who breaks down the game as if it were a science, and I believe that Luke's basketball knowledge easily exceeds that of Stu.

I wonder if there's a Podcast of it anywhere... y'all should check it out sometime. It was cool.
