Also, read the article:
2. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (last year: second)
You can rant and rail and tell me once again that I'm looking for attention or trying to create waves, but Kobe Bryant is coming off a year that saw him drag an injured leg and back around, and he's still got a bum index finger on his shooting hand. He's played over 45,000 minutes in his career counting the playoffs and he turns 32 on Monday. Dwyane Wade(notes) shot better, turned the ball over fewer times, assisted more despite terrible teammates, picked up more steals and blocks -- and he's four years younger. And he'll have the better season in 2010-11.

The Lakers are still the favorites in my eyes, and Kobe Bryant should be respected more than any other player in this league, but he's part of a great team now. And he passed the torch last season. Really, he passed two seasons ago to those who were playing attention.

The big deal is nobody should be ranked higher then kobe. sure wade and lebron will take that spot only by default once kobe retires or starts showing significant signs of declining. too me the better player is not the one with the superior stats its the one you want the ball in the hands at the end of the game when its still in the balance. and come next season i doubt wade will even have better stats then kobe due to his supporting cast. game on bitches

One man's opinion. Yeah, he's wrong, but he's entitled to that.

I did, actually. Where are the Mitch Richmonds and Latrell Sprewells of the mid-90s?

funny thing is that people love to use meaningless stats to rate players, well lebron and wade's stats should take a noticeable hit, does that mean that mean they are no longer the best?
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

1) it's one man's opinion and I really don't mind who ranks whom where.. ( never been my thing)
2) Kelly D is also a poster on RGM FYI.. CHI fan.

Take it for what it's worth. But I am just happy Basketball Season on the horizon. The more articles and chatter is good for us hoop heads.

Yeah, rankings mean shtt. A player is made and valued by court performance, not by an individual's rankings.

Man i remember those days.. my friends were all for tmac and i was the only one for kobe.. look at him now.. vet min and barely getting a deal?? wow.

i think based on talent alone they are quite par.. .but due to age. that's why he chose wade over kobe.. but we'll see who'll will win more championships hehe

Kelly Dwyer is a guy? I always thought she was a Jordan and Wade groupie.
Anyway the artical wasn't worth the time to read it. The writer is just another idiot posing as a savant who has poor logic to explain his Wade fanaticism. No doubt Wade is one of the best SG but head to head matchups between Wade, LBrn and Kobe shows Kobe still owns them. Wade's game is no doubt the most similar to Jordan in his quickness and ability to drive--but there is only one clear Jordan heir/protege who played Jordan to draw and continues to evolve his game despite setbacks and injuries.
Unlike Jordan in his later years, Kobe abstains from smoking/drinking, keeps his weight down and continues his intense conditioning which will give him atleast 6-8 more quality years.By then he will own the all-time scoring title and may have multiple rings. His motivation has been to collect as many rings as Bill Russell. His game has evolved to where he is the ultimate tactician with footwork surpassing MJ's (Phil Jackson's own assessment). Wade and Jordan has better explosiveness but Kobe now possess maybe the best arsenal of moves and shooting range NBA has seen. Will likely improve when his knee and trigger finger gets better.

A team with Lebron, Wade, prime Tim Duncan, Amare, Carmelo, Boozer, Iverson, Lamar and RJ couldn't even beat Lithuania or Argentina and was embarrassed by the Puerto Ricans.

Miami Heat is an experiment but it's been done before. My take is that the current NBA champ Lakers gotta be better than those 2004 Puerto Ricans right?

I think he passes the torch to Pau when he came here and Kobe saw how hard he worked and how great he was. Kobe is still the leader, but the metaphorical torch is no longer in his back pocket.

I must have missed this. LOL, he passed the torch but outplayed Wade the 2 times they met? This guy is making it sound like Kobe is nearing retirement and declining as a player. This wasn't even a discussion before Kobe got hurt.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
