Idea: History mock drafts

Would it be fun to do a 1990 fantasy draft this summer, then a 1991 next summer etc. Just a draft like we just did (Mock) where we go 15 rounds deep with 10 managers and try to gather the best team possible. It would be interesting to see which players would go in which round, and afterwards I'd be willing to see how each team would've faired going by the total stats accumulated by the drafted players.

Would Magic and MJ beat out Olajuwon for the top draft pick? Where would Ewing go? Etc, etc.

Interesting, maybe, but wouldn't the fact that the numbers are already "in" make it a little predictable? I mean, you're not betting on what they will do, you already know what they've done. Might work as a sim league idea though.

Hm, a draft would make it more interesting to read. I could also just make a list and post that. A draft would add a little comment for each player.

I found a data set for 1990-1991 and computed the 9-cat z-rankings on a per game basis for the season. Here's a list of the top 40 players. And MJ dominated. His "value" was 1.20 compared to 0.93 for Robinson and 0.92 for Olajuwan. I tossed out the players who played fewer than 40 games. Tarpley (drug suspension?) played 5 games which would've ranked him #2, and Mark Price (injury?) played 16 games which would've put in top 10. Jordan lead the league in scoring, Stockton in assists, and Olajuwan in boards and blocks. Forgot how much of stud Michael Adams was - 26.6 ppg, 2.5 3pg, 3.9 rpg, 10.5 apg, 2.2 spg, 87.9% fg (though he was big negative in 3.6 topg, 39.4% fg).

Forgot how much of stud Michael Adams was - 26.6 ppg, 2.5 3pg, 3.9 rpg, 10.5 apg, 2.2 spg, 87.9% fg (though he was big negative in 3.6 topg, 39.4% fg).

I saw a Celtics-Bullets(?) game on the tube back then where Adams went completely berserk. He was shooting 35 footers and it was nothing but net. It was so wild to watch an nba game where a guy just dribbled a bit over the half court line and then launched with no conscience at all.

I also remember a Dee Brown dunk over two 7 footers. He came up with the ball down near the low block. Was just standing there, surrounded by 2 huge defenders, looking around for someone to pass it to. His teammates weren't giving him any help at all, so finally he just jumped straight up, reached out and threw it down. The defenders were caught flat footed and never got off the ground.

I'm probably merging two different games in my mind, so don't be surprised if I am.

I remember that Dee Brown dunk. I was a Dee Brown fan.

I also remember Byron Scott heroics in the playoffs and loved watching Michael Cooper and his Coop-a-loops. (I still miss Chick Hearn, RIP).
