I only like this idea if the games are played outdoors.

I actually didn't watch most of the playoffs last year because I knew it would just be an exchanging of baskets in most games. I watch the Lakers because well, I like to win, and had some money on them. And that's all it really comes down to. If people have a team to cheer for, then they'll watch, regardless of what type of basketball/defense being played or not.

It wouldn't be a team sport anymore because these scrubs making low salaries would be trying to prove themselves night in and night out to make a fatter contract. This would ruin the entire NBA.

That already happens on most teams.

Exactly my point.

Lmao that this bloke continued to argue that this was a good idea when he got no positive feedback at all. In my time I have heard a million terrible ideas but none of them have been even close to this! The only reason I would like it is if I could get a gig on for the minimum on the 25 player roster haha

Truly the highlight of the thread.

I'd love to see an illustration of this post.

Yeah... nobody's going to spend 5 hours watching a basketball game. Baseball's dieing cause the games are 3.5 hours.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

25 player rosters? I can just image the 5th string point guard for a 10 win team will be some guy named Marty who used to work concessions at the arena before they hired him to sit on the bench.

This is a flat out rediculas concept. Baseball is long and boring but is designed to be slow. Soccer is 90 minutes because half the game is played at mid field and there are zones where certain players must be and if the ball isn't in that zone that player just stands there. Basketball is 5 on 5 up and down the court and it's physically exhausting for just 48 minutes. not to mention the contact NBA players take.

Time outs are a necessity of the game as well since most teams make a good portion of their money on concession sales which happen during game stoppages. the MLS can get away with it because there is like 25 exciting seconds in a 90 minute game and the arean's are build so you can still watch the game while you get your beer, no so with NBA arena's.

82 90 minute games is just insane, plus travel. by the playoffs Marty from Concessions would be the last guy left on the team.

Great idea but I think the jump up to 100 minutes is probably ideal..

Lakers05 wrote:Before y'all roll your eyes, look at my arguments:

1) This would ensure that no one team can dominate with just superstar players. A guy like Lebron can at best play and affect 45 min(even less if you remove halftime and timeouts). You want to build a "superteam" with just 3 superstars? No problem, we'll beat you with the 4th-18th guys.

2) This would allow a ton of fringe NBDL players, Euros, and maybe even Asians to play in the league, truly making it a worldwide sport.

3) The current players would not object because their salaries are not reduced, nor their playing time increased(though you'd think that they'd want to play even more, as opposed to sitting on the bench), nor decreased.

4) The length of the game can be reduced by removing timeouts, halftime, and free throws. Plus, baseball is long and people don't seem to have a problem.

5) The only bad thing about this is that it breaks tradition, but really, who cares about that. This satisfies everyone currently, and that should be all that matters.

Like college ball if it was diluted by adding an extra ten guys on each team and making it a 90 minute game, then yes.

Not to support the OP's point, but you are underestimating the amount of people that can play basketball in the United States and Outside. I hardly doubt that the ~250 rotation players in this league are the only ones in the world that can actually play the game.

By experience (high school, college, in street courts, local leagues etc) I witnessed a high amount of talented people doing amazing things with the basketball. They can swish 30 shots in a row. Cross you over badly. Shut you down on D like a lock.

I really have a hard time grasping the existence of such a large amount of scrubs in the NBA.
