HOUSTON - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed guard Ishmael Smith to a multi-year deal. Smith (6-0, 175, Wake Forest) led the Rockets in assists per game during the 2010 NBA Summer League, finishing with averages of 7.8 points (.581 18-31 FG) and 4.8 assists in five games (five starts) with Houston.

I'll bet that the first year is partially guaranteed and the 2nd year is not a team option but fully unguaranteed.


Fully unguaranteed contracts are better for trading because they give u some wiggle room in trades and can be cut afterward. This is why Morey gave guys like Mike Harris and Alexander 2 year deals with the 2nd year being fully unguaranteed.


You can't trade team option until you elect to pick up his option. When that happens his contract becomes guaranteed which is bad for the cap.

i think team option you have until 10/31 to exercise it or something (need to look it up in the cba)
