Wait, was he cut or did he did he withdraw due to family problems?

“Rajon came to us and said he was going to withdraw from the team, that he had some family matters to attend to and some things to take care of before the NBA season. He did an outstanding job during our training, we appreciate the effort and commitment he made to our program and he completely has our support,” said Colangelo.

Its kind of hard to tell what really is the truth, because before Rondo had taken a day or two off to attend a funeral or something...so maybe it could be personal reasons that caused him to withdraw.

But Rondo did say that he might get cut and he is on the bubble, so maybe out of pride he just withdrew instead of getting cut.

I personally will go with the latter, I think he withdrew because he didn't want to get cut.

Yeah he knew, this is something the team has done in the past, letting a player say they withdrew.

"I think I'm on the bubble," Rondo said Tuesday. "Just looking at the obvious -- I got a DNP last game. That pretty much speaks for itself."

As for the decision, not that surprised honestly. Coach K knew teams would try to exploit his lack of outside shooting.

"It's not so much what Rajon has to show, it's what our team needs. We've found a good lineup, and the international game is so different from the NBA game, you can ask any of these guys," Krzyzewski said. "Part of it is to make sure that we try not to have two non-shooters out on the court, and there's the physicality, too.

"Derrick right now being with Chauncey is a good [combination], and Stephen, he provides a different thing, because if they are going under [screens] and they keep going under on him, then he has a 3. So it forces another team to change the way they defend our team. So it's things like that, and how we feel strategy-wise what'll be best for the team."

Whatever the reason, Rondo is a great player and I think his defense is going to be missed.
I also think he should have stayed and been the primary point guard. He might not be able to shoot that well, but his ball distribution is elite.

Not surprised one bit that morons like you started showing. Guess it's time for the pathetic "Rondo plays with three future HOFs," huh?

Back on topic.. whether he was cut or not I think it's only going to end up hurting Team USA. What he brings outside of scoring is better than any other guard on the team. I would have much rather seen them cut Gordon.

Eh, not that big of a deal.

Rondo is very good. Rose is just better. I look forward to watching Rajon in the regular season.

Wow. A lot of Real GM posters are so much smarter and know so much more about basketball than Coach K. Who knew?

I don't think Rondo would make much difference anyway for it to hurt or help Team USA. He had a horrible game against Lithuania, and didn't played against Spain. Most people knew he would be likely to get cut.

I think they should have tried to keep him for his experience and toughness.

Rondo's game just doesn't fit very well in the international game. Even beyond his poor shooting, his freewheeling play-making is not as effective with the reduced court spacing.

Rondo is a better NBA player than Rose or Westbrook. I didn't see any of those guys on the NBA all star team. But Rondo is headstrong, and probably pissed off some of the coaches.

From Rondo's perspective, even if he made the team, why should he risk injury as a practice player? After two consecutive DNP-CDs, I would have walked away too, and if I were his agent that would have been my advice.

Uhhh...you must have missed the all star game then, because Derrick Rose was an All-Star.

Did you even watch the all-star game? Rose played in it.

What's with the Rondo hate? I can't tell if SOME (not all, by any means) people actually think he got cut or they WANTED him cut to put him down.

I think Rondo is the best PG on the team.

Billups was once better, but not any more. As an overall player, he is also slightly better than Rose
