OT: Sosa Thinks No. 21 Should Be Untouchable By Cubs

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:56 pm

Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa said his jersey No. 21 should be retired and its continued use shows the strain in his relationship with his old team.

"That number should be untouchable because of the things that I did for that organization," Sosa said in an interview with Chicago Magazine.

"That right there shows me that they don't care about me, and they don't want to have a good relationship with me."

Cubs rookie outfielder Tyler Colvin wears No. 21.

Former Cubs pitcher Jason Marquis also wore it from 2007-08.

Do you agree, should his number be retired?

It's incredible how oblivious or stubborn the steroid generation is towards their tarnished reputations. A few of them (McGuire, Giambi) know that as soon as they were caught (or admitted, or pleaded the 5th), knew the implications with respect to reputation and legacy. Then there is everyone else, who still expects their records and feats to be respected. Sorry Sammy, you are one of the biggest culprits and are sure to be made an example of. You will not have your number retired. You will not be voted into Cooperstown. You will forever be remembered at one of the Home Run Kings during the steroid era - and that is it.

I feel worse for guys like Sosa and McGuire, because they their drug use was almost promoted and celebrated by the MLB. Bud Selig is definitely a scumbag - he's almost like Vince McMahon in this respect - letting his employees take the entire fall for the drug problem in his industry, while they positively-reinforced the behaviour throughout. I feel far less sympathy for those who are still playing and expect everyone to forget and forgive, like Alex Rodriguez.

What did he really do for that organization? Really...?

He smacked a bunch of home runs while 'roided up and took them how far in the playoffs?

He doesn't speak English only when questioned about his home runs.

He's not a Blue Jay, so yes he should be ostracized.
