Seems to me that this "withdrawal" was more about attitude than talent. Talent alone, Rondo should make the team, but it's no secret that Rondo is difficult to deal with and has a pretty piss poor attitude. Unfortunately for him, the USA coaching staff obviously has no patience for this and wants good character guys on this year's team.

I don't see why USA needs both Rose and Westbrook. Rondo I guess was expendable because they had friggin 4 other PGs on the roster (if you count Curry and Billups, which I do), but if you have to carry 4 PGs on the roster, why not diversify the skill set a bit?

+1
This may very well be the case, glad someone can look at it rationally as opposed to these Rose fanboys coming in here.

so is this more or less the finalized depth chart....?

Rose/billups/westbrook
Curry/Gordon
Durant/gay/iggy
Love/granger
Chandler/odom

westbrook is the 5th guard and iggy is the fifth forward I assume. i haven't had a chance to see any games thus far so I could be way off.

Love won't start at PF either Durant, Granger, or Gay will.

I doubt he would withdraw to avoid being cut. With Rondo's confidence, being cut was probably not even an option in his mind. Until further evidence proves me wrong, I'm putting some faith into his story that he withdrew for family reasons.

Except that Rondo was quoted yesterday as saying that he knew he was on the bubbl and in danger of being cut.

So Rondo quit before he could be fired.

Oh no, who is Team USA going to get to gamble for steals and throw the ball away?

I can see the argument of rondo being the better tradition point guard.. but if you trying to actually argue he is the superior player?

Watching the games, team USA has a lot of P.G talent. But maybe they could have moved Steph to SG, and Eric Gordon being send home. Though Gordon is a better shooter, and does play more like a natural scorer. So I guess is kind of tricky decision Rondo vs Gordon, Rondo is better player, but plays in stacked position, but Gordon might fit better..
Though I think this team might flop, they don't really have good post up players. Though haven't seen much of K Love, when I've watched never seems to get in the game. I feel this team too much guard play, to little post up game.
Our guards are extremely fast, but it could be tricky, if the other team, is able to contain them, plus just has a couple guys to pound it inside on our bigs.

Also using guys that probably didn't suck up enough to the coach, as a reason to say X>Z or whatever argument people keep using prop up their fan boy favorite team USA players.(Rose fans) In a odd way, I wanted to see Rondo stick around, to see the fanboys snipe at each other the whole tournament.

Oh god no. I think cutting Gordon or Westbrook would have been the better basketball choice, but I am still thanking heaven that Rondo got cut, so I can actually read a WC thread that isn't filled with dimwitted Chicago and Boston fans spewing page after page of unreadable garbage about Rondo vs. Rose.

Rondo was the best PG on that team. Why do you think he would be cut? Anyways, yea the title makes it look like the OP has a big agenda against Rondo, which then surfaces the trolls like this dude.

actually im a fan of rondo
but from the quotes i have read from coach k, rondo, etc
he was facing being cut, he may or may not have actually got cut, but instead of stick it and and see, he left, im not knocking his game, but the guy has a serious attitude problem

i think the player that needed to be cut was curry

You can blame both sides. I can also tell you that this probably won't end the Rondo vs Rose chatter either. Anytime Rose makes the slightest mistake, people will make some silly comment about how "Rondo would not have made a mistake" or "This is exactly why we should have cut Rose and not Rondo." I hope I'm wrong, but I think the Rondo homers are far from done.

Fair enough. Truth be told though it can't be an easy decision to cut any of those PGs... They're all amazing. Still think the title should be changed though.

Oh please, reading the GB gamethread against Spain was like reading a giant hatefest on Rose for every single little thing that happened. Of course Bulls fans might be on the defensive against all the bitterness and whining.

I think Rose would've been cut if Rondo didn't have an extremely urgent family crisis he needed to handle immediately. Billups is versatile and can play two positions and has veteran savvy and guile; Curry's game is well-suited to FIBA ball and he can drain several threes in a row if USA is in desperation mode; and Westbrook plays quite well with Thunder teammate and USA superstar Durant and is a better playmaker than Rose.

I'm rather disappointed one of Rondo's family members needed him suddenly, since it would've been entertaining watching an elite playmaker set up all-star after all-star. Now we won't have that. I may be tempted to root for Spain, since Rubio is now the closest thing I'll have to watching an elite point guard in this tournament. I am keeping my fingers crossed, hoping a family crisis doesn't rip him away too. Still, I will probably root for USA, but I won't be crushed if Rubio and his elite point guard skills make Spain World Champions.
