Update on Okur

8/24 10:00am - Memo, Fesenko, Another Big.

A bunch of short tidbits today. We could call this a mailbag because these are most of the questions I am receiving.

MEMO

Memo continues to work hard in his rehab. All reports have him being very diligent. He has been shooting and doing a little running. He will be heading down to the training center in Santa Barbara to do some more intense training.

It is still unclear when he will be ready. The opening of the season seems to be a lot to ask and maybe the more important question is when will he be right on the floor again rather than when will he get on the floor again.

Glad to hear Okur is supposedly taking things seriously. I love the guy, but he's never been much of an off-season warrior.

I have a dreadful feeling that Jarron Collins is returning to the Jazz.

The remaining veteran bigs on the market is a slim list. The best on the list include, former Jazzman Jarron Collins, DJ Mbenga, Rasho Nesterovic, Nazr Mohammed and Etan Thomas.
- MBenga is probably the best at alter the flow of a game; athletic dude with a quick jump motion, dude can be seriously dangerous and would probably beat Fesenko for the backup big spot
- Thomas would be good and Mohammed would be more than acceptable; both will challenge Fesenko
- Jarron would be ok, but ok's not enough IMHO
- Nesterovic would be horendous; I'd puke

What's wrong wtih Nesterovic? Seems like a good backup C to me. Zero upside, but, he'd be a lot more effective than Fes I'll wager.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Can't believe Locke didn't know Nesterovic isn't a free agent anymore. Rasho signed with Olympiakos weeks ago.

You know, sometimes Locke is just so wrong on stuff it's embarrassing, especially when he's so arrogant about it.

And I'm going through serious Ross Siler withdrawals. I know it's the NBA lull season right now but Siler would have had at least something to say on twitter or the trib blog. And unlike Locke, Siler was usually right and never condescending.

This is less optimistic than the last report. The last one seemed to leave hope for him playing the season opener. This one casts doubt on that hope.

If Okur is unable to help at the start of the season, this makes getting another big during this offseason even more important.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.
