Erick Dampier to be dealt.

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 3:28 pm

There is a wiretap story about the Cats looking to deal Dampier after his TRT expires on Sept 13th.

Is there any realistic way we can move TJ and and filler to them for that contract and then cut him. They should just cut the guy unless they are getting some good stuff out his trade.

But the reason they are waiting for Sept 13th is so they can trade other players with him so it seems they want to use Dampier to get rid of someone else. Who would that be and who would we be willing to take on. It has to be either Carroll, Diaw or Diop. Most likely Diop who is totally worthless.

Is there any chance we'd take on Diop and his 3yr $20.7 million contract to get the contract of Dampier? TJ, and Dunleavy for Dampier and Diop matchs up salary, but then we could cut Dampier and save $13 million this season, but we'd be stuck with Diop for 3 yrs. Could we then buy out Diop with the $13 million we save on Damp?

It looks like they might trade Dampier I'd just cut him if it was me running the Cats but who knows maybe someone will eat the contract of Diop, but If they do trade Damp the cats are gonna be over the Luxury Tax this season. And they aren't gonna be winnning alot of games.

I guess logistically it could happen but I highly doubt that it will happen. If it were the beginning of the summer and there were still attractive pieces on the market then shaving that $13 million off the salary would mean something. Right now it wouldn't really do much for us, and would take us out of the trade picture at the deadline.

wonder if it might be part of a 3 way deal? we send an expiring to Charlotte, they send Damp somewhere, and the third team sends us a power forward. of course, if Charlotte wants to send us Damp, waiving him would create the roster spot we need for Rolle but I don't think we want to give up a tradeable asset without getting our 4.

I'm sure they are wanting to move Diop and I cannot see taking him. I really would like to move out TJ Ford but it makes no sense for the Cats to trade Damp unless they are getting rid of Diop too. Other wise I'd just cut Damp and be done with it.

I'm game for a Dampier deal where we can send mutiple players out, and just take Dampier back or a 3 for 2 deal. At this point if we could open up a roster spot at the expense of our least desiralbe expiring, and take back IMO a servicable expiring center back we would have done pretty well. Even if Damp doesn't work out we still have the option to trade him at the deadline. However, I wouldn't be crazy about taking Diop back. If that was the case, it's a pass for me.

BiggDawg, we'd never see Damp play because we'd option out. That is the only reason he has value to us.

^^
If that's the case then no. I think there are better ways to use expirings. IMO i would like to get something that is useful back. Dampier isn't retired is he? I don't know why he couldn't back up hibbert. Even if he was seeing solo type minutes it would be of use to keep around as an expiring at the least?

I only followed Damp when he was with the Warriors. Back then, I would have said "yes, he is retired". Not sure about lately.
