I think we saw today that Rose and Westbrook and Billups are more than capable of handling all the PG minutes. Rondo didn't bring anything to the table (basically being a more polished slightly less athletic Westbrook) so he was the odd man out.
I like Rondo, but his Celtic team is custom built to hide his glaring weakness, this team is not.
Rondo is cut from Team USA.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Rondo is one of the most overrated players in the game today.

If it was you'd be talking about Rondo v Curry or Eric Gordon or even Westbrook who is a copy of Rondo with a different style of play.
Now, that said, I don't think Rondo leaving is going to hurt Team USA because of Westbrook. Westbrook isn't as experience in running a team as rondo is, but as someone else mentioned Team USA isn't really a team this year... more of a collection of players that want to ISO or just drive to the bucket and do a bail out pass if they can't make it all the way for the dunk.
But whatever good things Rondo would bring to Team USA, Westbrook will essentially do.. as well as the poor things with not being able to hit a shot and Team USA zone blah blah blah about why Rondo must of been cut. If you really believe that then Westbrook should be cut too and we need to find another player for Team USA.
Rondo must of not meshed well with the team to of no longer been on the team after being the starting PG for every game. Which I think might discount him from future dealings with Team USA.
You have to look at the Olympics and think... Prince, Kobe, Kidd, and Redd won't be back. With no Rondo you got Rose and Durant... and two open guard spots that will come from this team. Could very well be Curry and Gordon for the protypical shooter.
Except that westbrook has been the best shooting PG during FIBA

Really fallacy? REALLY? You want to go there.
Okay I'm happy Westbrok is making his funky dunk layups. By that standard Tyson Chandler has not missed a single shot!!! 100% shooting he's better then Durant and Curry combined at Shooting!
And holy **** Rondo is a 57% shooter!? Offensive GOD
I stand by Rondo and Westbrook being essentially the same. Rondo is more adapt at being a floor general and a playmaker and Westbrook is actually an average free throw shooter. Take your pick you can't go wrong. They're both one of the best defending and rebounding PGs in the world.

There is just an abundance of talent at the point, but it isn't a diss to Rondo. It reflects poorly that a player like Chandler is still in instead of Rondo.

Westbrook has actually been hitting 3s in FIBA, which is somewhat surprising.
I'm also a C's fan and you lose major credibility with me when you say that Rondo and Westbrook are essentially the same. Rondo's a pass first PG with excellent vision and a strong dislike for taking low % shots (for him anything outside of 12 feet). Westbrook is more like Rose: a scoring 1 with decent vision and a willingness, nay eagerness, to take pull-up jumpers and any other shot that presents itself.
They are comparable rebounders, good defenders and fellow bricklayers from the NBA 3, but that's where the comparison ends.

He's made two more 3s then Rondo in all the games that have been played.
Both WestBrook and Rondo wait and try to take their high percentage shot (inside 12 feet) and in that regard usually do their best to take care of the ball and/or end the play with a positive shot.
As for 3 of their comparisons you agree too, 2 of them are the two defining characteristics that they excel at... defense and rebounding. I stand by their the same player with different styles. Yes, Rondo is a better playmaker or better *vision* if you like. And Westbrook is a better shooter. But for the reason they stand out... the reasons are the same.
Saying Westbrook is more Rose then Rondo is something I think makes you seem less crediable. Rose is a legit scorer with an excellent mid range shot. Rose could one day average 20ppg on 45% shooting and 10 assists as the first or second option for a championship team. Westbrook and Rondo should always be the third at most second option if your team is going to contend.
