MELO

Post#1 » by RiversideClips » Mon Aug 16, 2010 11:06 pm

Any way w/ can make a quick deal for Melo? Even if it is just for a tear: it will prove to players in the league that the Clips really want to get players.
What can we do player/salary wise? Denver has to know that it would be in their best interest to get young players & money NOW for Melo.

I wouldn't go after him, because if he's leaving the Nuggets, he would leave the Clippers as a FA too.

Well Sportsfan even if he were to eventually leave the Clippers we'd still get Mello for 4-5 years in his prime, which sounds like a great deal to me. I hope we can somehow get Mello, he's definitely the 2nd best SF in the league.

Only, and only if he signs an extension

He would opt out after this season and head to NY, so we'd only have him for one year.

Melo would never stay with us long term. IF we got him he would only stay with us for one season. I don't think he's worth going after.

I would rather live in the day, then struggle every year!!
Going after Melo will show NBA players that the Clips are in "WIN" Mode

The issue of him leaving is not really an issue. You either do an extend and trade deal or you don't trade for him period. The hardest part would be giving Denver a fair trade that would still keep us competitive enough for Melo to even agree to it in the first place. I don't think that would be possible for it to happen this offseason.

Marquee players aren't going to be willing to come here until the team shows that it can win and that it has a bright future with more certainties than possibilities or "hope so's". If Griffin shows that he can be the franchise-type player that many of us hope or believe that he can be, then that can change a lot of things for us.

Except 'Melo will not have a 1 Hour Special. Take it to the bank.

Meanwhile, if the Nuggets cannot convince Carmelo Anthony to sign an extension with the team and they decide to trade him at some point, could it be to the Los Angeles Clippers? I’m hearing it could be a possibility. It would get both he and his wife, La La, out to where entertainment opportunities are plentiful, which is key factor in their decision to want to move on. The Nuggets might be able to get a good young player or two or draft picks, and Anthony would be able to play on a team with some good up-and-coming talent.

Thanks for the link Hooch.

It would have been much easier for us to make a deal for him earlier in the summer (i.e. before the Decision). Carmelo makes over $17M and we have about $5M (just under) in cap space. Right now, Kaman and Baron are our only big money contracts. They're not going to want nor need Baron. Kaman could be intriguing to them, but they do have Nene & Andersen. Our free agent signees (Foye, Gomes, Butler, Smith & Cook) cannot be traded until December 15th.

If we could keep Griffin, Gordon & the Minny pick, then I'd be willing to trade just about anything else.

I really believe it is a matter of time that the Clippers land a star. We have the cap space, talent, draft picks and city to make a deal happen. Maybe 'Melo will be that guy.

I'd be willing to do Kaman, Aminu, future 1st, and the Wovles pick. Sure Kaman is borderline All-Star and we're giving up what amounts to be 3 first round picks, but Carmelo is the true star that this team has been waiting for. Him along with Griffin and Gordon could turn around the way everyone thinks about this franchise.

We could also do.

Bobcats get Baron. They get the veteran PG they need and Larry Brown loves him.

Nuggets get Dampier, Aminu, Bobcats 1st, and the Wolves pick. They waive Dampier instantly for huge savings and still get the 3 first round picks.

Clips get Carmelo. We have to go with Foye and Bledsoe at the PG spot, but we keep our big front line intact.

I would do these trades too. As long as Blake, Gordon, and one of Kaman or Jordan are held on to you go after Anthony.

Doubt Denver would bite, but Kaman, Warren, Aaminu and a pick could work.

I was surprised to see that Melo may have interest in us.

I like Hooch's proposal, mainly because I don't think Kaman is expendable right now. DJ as our starting center? ehhhhhhh

it doesn't sound possible unless we have a third team at hand anyways.

A poster named TeddyGreen posted this on another board.

Larry Coon (NBA Cap Specialist) feels that we could offer the best package. Kaman, Aminu and Minnesota Pick. Melo would just have to not be opposed to playing here.
