Had lunch today with a Bears staffer and talked some about the team. Here's the summary:
--The team is more worried about the OL than they are letting on, specifically Chris Williams at LT. They are frustrated with his lack of development in terms of technique and competitiveness. They're also almost certain to swap out a couple of backups with some waiver acquisitions, so don't be married to Marten or even Beekman.
--The Clark to fullback move is working better than expected. They did it initially to save Kellen Davis a roster spot but Clark has proven he can handle the job change. Expect to see more "heavy" packages with Clark at FB and Davis and Manu crammed tight. Note that if Forte is in the game, it's a run but if Taylor is in the game the main read is to pass. Of course he could just be telling me that to throw certain readers off...
--Josh Bullocks is going to win the battle with Afalava for the 4th safty spot behind Harris, Manning, and Wright. Steltz and Afalava are fighting for one roster spot but could both stick if certain other dominoes fall. One of those is the deep-reserve CB battles--Joshua Moore can play safety, DJ Moore and Woodny Turenne cannot. Steltz could wind up on PUP to delay a decision, his hammy is that bad right now.
--Earl Bennett is falling WAY back and is in real peril of not making the team. That doesn't necessarily mean being cut but he could be an IR or PUP stash. he will be no more than the 5th receiver this year. Rashied Davis is "thriving" in the Az Hakim role and has "blown past" Bennett. Mike Martz has little use for wideouts that lack quickness and Bennett might be the least-quick WR in the league.
--Jarron Gilbert would be gone already if he was a 5th rounder and not a 2nd. He might be gone anyways. Wootton looks bound for the practice squad.
--They are real hopeful that they don't have to keep Todd Collins. They "begged" Trent Green to come back but he refused. Keep an eye on if Miami cuts Pat White--you heard that here first!

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Good info, thanks for sharing it!
This was an easy duh for me
Hopefully they can turn it around somewhat, otherwise I fear for Jay Cutler this year!

Re: Camp chatter
The protection overall against Arizona was much better than expected, ICLO. The sacks were mostly a result of either the WRs not getting open or Jay just holding onto the ball too long.
