you missed the most important quote!

What’s more, the Charlotte Bobcats are a sleeper because of Anthony’s Brand Jordan shoe deal and the team’s ability to give the Nuggets a salary-dump proposal.

The article claims that the Nuggets like the pieces that may be offered from the Nets or the Clippers, but no way to know if Melo would sign an extension with either team before a trade.

I've gotta believe Melo really wants to go to the Knicks. We have no good way to help facilitate a deal and get anything back we'd really want. But if Melo goes, I still wonder if we could get Billups for Dampier? Any deal for Melo from either team would return some quality players, so they will not be in a total rebuild mode. But they would likely need to build some salary space, so why not deal for it?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

This is great timing for the Bobcats. If this deal happens and it sounds like it will, we're positioned to be a prime facilitator. When Anthony goes, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to work our way into the trade and pick up something of value in return. Especially since the Knicks don't have a lot to offer Denver on the surface.

Obviously I’m a Bobcats homer, so am trying to make this deal work for our boys in orange - this trade assumes that Denver would want to blow their team up when Carmelo goes and that Carmelo is a big enough fish to merit a mega deal.

I’m not 100% certain that the numbers work here (tradechecker is flaky), nor the cap ramifications, but man I would love to see this happen:

Charlotte Gets:

C. Billups
C. Anderson
JR Smith

Denver Gets:

Damp’s Expiring
Anthony Randolph
Danilo Gallinari
Azubuike
DJ Augustin
Pick from NYK

NYK Gets:

Carmelo
Diaw

Charlotte gets their PG in Billups, another reclamation project in Smith (who could provide desperately needed points off the bench and is an expiring next year if he doesn't pan out), and a backup for T2 in Anderson.

Denver immediately goes into youth mode. Ty Lawson is given the reigns. Galinari slides into the 3. Randolph gives them a player with one of the biggest upsides in the league and they don’t need to take on Eddy Curry’s last year.

New York gets their man, plus Diaw can be reunited with the coach that loves him.

I like it for all involved. I don't think NYK have any picks left though.

On a side note, will be interesting to see how Felt's goes playing Melo and Amare!

hmmm...still trying to manually work the numbers for this trade but think they make sense:

Denver takes on 24.2 mill in salaries (and cuts damp immediately to recoup 13 mil)
Charlotte takes on 24.4 mil in salaries - Anderson has 3 years left on an affordable deal, Smith's 6.7 expires next season and Billups is committed for another 2 years.
Finally, NYK take on 26.2 mil in salaries between Diaw and Carmelo.

Gotta imagine that Felts is smiling right now. Good for him.

I'd much rather have Nene than Anderson because Nene is a starter at the center spot an he fills a void this team needs. He brings more to the table than Anderson and he's about 4 years younger. If we can get Billups and Nene we have a starting core that's able to play with any team in the league.

I don't see them moving Nene, but who knows...the names mentioned are Anthony, Smith and Martin. Looks like my trade scenario has a fatal flaw, anyway. New York would be taking on way too much salary. Damn trade checkers (trade machine and tradechecker) choke on three team trades, so I'm actually having to do math (badly).

Couple of other straight up scenarios that definitely work:

Charlotte and Denver

Wallace, Dampier to Denver
Anthony, JR Smith to Charlotte

Just to humor Yahoo Sports and the bobcats wild card status in the Carmelo sweepstakes. Very unlikely Charlotte is a consideration, but we do have the ability to swing a trade and give Denver an expiring.

NYK and Denver:

Curry, Azubuike, Gallinari, Randolph to Denver
Anthony, JR Smith to NYK

This one works, but Denver would have to be OK with Curry's expiring.

Straight up between NJN and Denver:

Anthony and Lawson to NJN
T. Williams, D. Favors and Devin Harris to Denver (and maybe a pick)

This one seems like it would be really attractive to both teams and get Anthony into the NYC area.

BTW, this is hollinger's take from his Twitter feed:

http://twitter.com/johnhollinger

"If Nuggets do hold a Melo auction, my $$ is on Melo to Hou in a three-way with Charlotte -- Dampier to Den (gets under tax), Brooks to Cha."

"To clarify earlier post, Den would get much more than Damp -- get the NY picks from Hou, for starters. Only got 140 characters."

Hmmm....Brooks?

i saw that but i think hollinger is just guessing....cause it makes it sound like it was his idea.

haha, I'll take Brooks. I always feel like we're the homeless dude though willing to take the scraps of any big meal one of the princes of our neighborhood is having.

"awesome, I'll take your left over potatoes and half eaten cake in exchange for my iceberg lettuce"

then we walk away feeling like we made out like bandits while in reality, another team just passed us on the eastern conference hierarchy and we helped facilitate it. We'd probably somehow include a pick too. It's like the homeless person throwing in his Mikey Mantle rookie card with the lettuce because he didn't know it was actually worth something.

OK, no more analogies for me today.
