Goal for this upcoming season?

Post#1 » by Wizy » Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:08 am

Hey Wizards fans! Long lurker first time poster here 8-)

What I'm thinking right now is, what is our goal for this season? Obviously we want Wall to have a great rookie season and develop, but apart from that.. Playoffs? Land a high draft pick again?

The main thing I want for our team right now is just to develop the young guys, and possibly trade Arenas ( ) for some talented, hard working players so that in the future, hopefully, we can become a true contender.

Cheers! :D

Fewer threads! Ha ha!

The link below is to a thread from earlier in the summer called "WizFans, what are your expectations?" that discussed the exact same issue. Maybe this can be merged with it, or this new one can add a poll or something and continue.

At this point, if Wall doesn't get hurt like Strasburg/McNabb I'll consider it a successful season. The curse lives!

TJ (Tommy John; not TJ Ford) surgery probable for Strassburg - amazing. And Rob Dibble said he should have sucked it up and pitched... when he had a torn ligament in his arm. Goodbye to Dibbs as a Nats broadcaster.

Curses bounce off of Walls, so he'll be ok.

I want roster development. I don't care about wins or the playoffs.

Next year is going to be a lot of fun if we're healthy.

I'm greedy. I want it all. :)

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I think the first half of the season is entirely about evaluation and development.

These major questions should be answered in the first half of the season:

1. Does the Wall/Arenas backcourt work?
2. Is Blatche a good NBA starter, or a bad team good stats player? I think the answer is more the former, but I think the second is a possibility.
3. Are the bubble players(Yi, Nick Young, Thornton) in the Wizards future plans?
4. The future role for McGee and how close is he is to reaching it?
5. How "NBA-ready" are Seraphin and Booker?

I think the second half of the season is the time for the Wizards to show something on the court. While the first half of the season could be pretty ugly, I would like to see 20 wins in the second half of the season. Howard should be effective at that point. Wall and Arenas should be meshing.

1. Arenas - love the dude, would love to see nothing more but for him to explode back on the scene after all the **** he's been through.
2. Blatche - talked a big game about contracts, money and being a changed man. Can he continue his stunning turnaround?
3. McGee - I just need to see that this guy gets it. He's got no clue what being a professional is all about. Can he make the transition from balling manchild to legit NBA player?
4. Kevin Seraphin - like everything about the kid, can he bring us the toughness we've been lacking for a while?
5. John Wall - I'm not one bit concerned about the guy to be honest, but figured I'd list him anyway. I want to steady progress from him and primarily consistency.

Of course both would be best :)

However I think at this point it would be ok to sacrifice the play-offs for development of the roster. If there are trade offers for Hinrich, Howard or even Arenas that make the team worse in the short-run but deliver legit potential in return, I think the Wizards should still make them.

Read the post article that mentioned nine out of ten all star pitchers have had tommy john and the conspiracy theorist in my head wonders if they were planning on just having Strasburg undergo tommy john the whole time and this whole deal was just an elaborate sham to sell Strasburg being out for 18 months to the fans?
