i dont think just a title would do it. i think over a dozen more years here with a title(s) would. the records will come. 10k+ assists wouldn't hurt either.

Play consistently for close to another decade for the Jazz and win a title. That is basically it.

I think if Deron wins a title but leaves in a few seasons, it will still be Stockton.

I don't think Deron will ever be be in John's league, and a championship in today's watered-down NBA won't mean as much.

You cant even begin to compare the two. Deron is too new to the NBA.

Now if Deron Plays at his high level for 15 + years, avoids injury, makes multiple all star teams. Then we can compare him.

If he does all of the above and wins a title, then mabey he can be considered better.

Comparing Him right now in his career, reminds me when they used to say Shawn Kemp was better than Karl Malone. It is too early in his career. You never know what is going to happen. Lets see if he can be as durable and play at the high level for a long time.

With a player like Malone in his prime (26 to 31 ppg) do you think Deron would improve his numbers?
Do you think their prime would be better as a team?
I mean not a 10-12 years prime like with Stockton and Malone, but 5-6 years prime with posibility of a couple of rings???

If Deron gives us 10+ years at the level he's played at since 2006-07, and one championship, he'll be in the discussion....which is all we'll ever see, unless he wins 3 or more chips and makes 5+ All-NBA 1st teams.

It's too late for Deron to be considered better than Stockton. Deron's stats for the front half of his career have already doomed him never to be considered better than Stockton. That is, of course, unless Deron manages to do something truly amazing, you know, like win six championships and make Fes an All-Star.

It's astonishing to me that many of you seem to believe he has no chance at ever being considered comparable, let alone better. I understand the admiration for Stockton, I was too young to fully see his impact in the game, but I did watch. I definitely see more of a leader in Deron than I did in Stockton. The difference in the amount of points Deron puts up and Stockton put up is much more noticeable than their difference in assists. Karl Malone ran the floor better than any power forward I have seen; the fast breaks definitely inflated Stockton's assist number a bit I believe. Although, Stockton's ability to deflect passes and create steals is something I think Deron will never come close to achieving. Do I think Deron will be better than Stockton? It's fully possible. That doesn't mean I necessarily think it will happen. I think having the best power forward in league history had, to some degree, an impact in how fans measure Stockton's value.

I see no where near the amount of leadership in Deron than I saw in Stockton. Especially in the clutch, where, it you know, it matters.

Yeah, Deron possessing more leadership than Stockton is a delusional notion to me.

better than stockton? are you kidding me? stockton is a legend and one of the best pg's to ever play the game. Deron has to accomplish a lot more.
