Based on what we know so far, Wall is equally as athletic as Rose, he's a bit longer, and he's had just as much success in his freshman year in college. Furthermore, Wall had more hype coming into the pros than Rose (for whatever that's worth) and is known as being more of a pure point.
But you conveniently left out that Rose is much stronger. Considering their respective styles of play, 1 inch in length isn't a bigger attribute to have than the kind of strength Rose has. After Deron, Baron Davis & Billups, I can't think of a stronger PG than Rose. Factor in that he's arguably the fastest (or one of) PG's, and I can conclude he's more athletic than Wall or Evans. In terms of speed, IMO, Wall is equally quick in the open floor, but I think Rose has more body control than Wall. Rose can hang and glide in the air, contort his body acrobatically, and absorb contact that Wall cant (because Rose is stronger). However, Wall is better at drawing fouls than Rose.
That late layup that Rose made over Gasol vs. Spain is something I'm not sure Wall would be able to convert. That takes a ridiculous amount of body control and strength, challenging a guy 70-80 pounds heavier in the air and finishing. Everything I've seen from Wall at Kentucky and summer league is that he's far too erratic & out of control when he goes to the rim. He needs to fix this to avoid being a turnover machine in the NBA.
I don't see how anybody can say that Wall doesn't have the potential to be the best PG in the league. That doesn't mean he will be the best, but he certainly has the potential to be the best. There's simply no way to refute that given the facts we have right now. It's no disrespect to Rose, Paul or anybody else in the league.
Sure, I agree with that. Wall does have the potential to be the best PG in the league. Just like Rose has that potential. Just like Evans has that potential. Just like Griffin has that potential to be the best PF someday. The potential is definitely there for these guys. However, as of right now, Wall is a nobody to me until he plays an NBA game and proves something. You'd figure with the hype he's received, he's some once in a lifetime PG. However, he's very comparable to Rose was as a prospect, difference being Rose didn't get half the hype. Secretly, that's probably why a lot of Bulls fans are pretty sour.
