Is Benga Back?

Post#1 » by KingLakers » Sat Aug 28, 2010 2:09 am

Eric Pincus just put up a link to a foreign article on his twitter which says Benga has resigned with the Lakers has anyone heard or seen any other articles about this. In my own opinion this doesn't make any sense.

Kobe/Fish/Drew/Pau/Artest

LO/Blake/Barnes/Ratliff/Brown

Sasha/Luke/Caracter/Ebanks/Mbenga?

I'd be shocked if we carried 15 guys going into the season, Mitch usually likes to go with 13 but obviously couldn't pass up the min. salary signings of our 2 rookies. Mbenga doesn't make much sense to me with the addition of Ratliff.
Thank you, Phil.

This would actually be a good move. Mbenga can play D and block shots. That's all we need. Depth, baby.

Lakers have a few players making the vet min and if you add those up. It really is not that much extra.. Just think if they had a mid range type of vet. That one vet could cost what 3 min. contracts could be.

At this point, we really don't need any open roster spots.

I'm wondering if Mitch realized that the Lakers carrying only 13 players last year possibly hurt our overall depth. Thus making the adjustment, especially considering injuries...

Mbenga is a damn good 3rd or 4th string center, IMO.

Totally disagree. We're not stacked at center by any means.

Considering Bynum's been injured 3 seasons in a row and Pau's hamstring, you never know.

Bynum/Pau/Ratliff

Ratliff can't handle more than 20 minutes a game and if Bynum or Pau gets injured we're asking for trouble. Going to put too much strain on Pau, Lamar, and Ratliff they'd be dead for the playoffs.

Not sure if it's true, but if we did resign Mbenga, it fills the most concerning weakness in our depth chart.

im not too worried about it, it'll handle itself out, im hoping for the best as in bynum doesnt get a severe injurys and just little knicks here and there.

besides i doubt bynum and gasol will BOTH sit out any games this year

the 2 rooks may not make the final roster after preseason so i don't think it is unusual to start preseason with a 15 man roster.

It's not about them both sitting out games this year, it's about either sitting out for extended periods. As tough as it is to believe, Gasol and Bynum both played 65 games this season. I just don't want to put too much strain on Ratliff's 37 year old body. I think it's sort of crazy to have a guy that old be your only backup and insurance policy....

Actually Caracter's contract is guaranteed so he will be a part of this team for 10-11'.Ebanks must show his skills during the preaseason games in order to make the team. But with his upside and Walton's back problems he is also almost a lock to make the team.

We won't start the preseason with a 15 man roster, camp fodders will be signed to non guaranteed deals and then cut right before the season starts.

And no ,Mbenga is not coming back, people need to realize that when healthy only Odom,Gasol and Bynum will play(except for garbage time). We have already 2 bigs who will rot on the bench,no need for 3.Especially when Mbenga would have the 1,3 mil salary(which will be doubled in tax pay)
