This is really 100% irrelevant, though, because none of the US players who won the gold at the Olympics are currently playing in this tournament.

That the USA has a whole different team is of course another question, but winning the olympic basketball tournament definitely makes you the number one team, even if Spain is the reigning world champion. If Spain wins the world championships again, they are back on top.

Thanks for being so kind to me. (Actually, you're the first who's nice to me about this topic... )

Yes, I think the Olympic may be comparable to the World Champs. Then, we could say that your Redeem Team is better than our Spanish Team (we don't have any nickname  ). But now, you have a completely different team, and we don't have neither Pau Gasol nor Jose Calderon. I wish you luck and let's see who wins this year
When I finish a game, they ask me "how did it go? how many points did you score?", when the real question should be "what have you done today to help your team win?". - Ricky Rubio.

It is not my team as I am not american nor supporting them. I'm supporting Spain and Germany actually.
No need to thank me for not writing insults or writing in a moderate tone, that is just normal for anyone who is not a jerk or a dumb kid.

Derrick Rose and the way he runs the team as a pure PG that can light it up scoring when a bucket or two is needed has been a huge bright spot for Team USA these first two games

And that's on the Euro level, obviously in the NBA it's even tougher to finish in the paint. Teams will recognise this and it will hinder him somewhat. He is such a great passer that he will still find guys but there are going to be times where the help stays home and Rubio will be forced to finish amongst the trees.

He really needs to get Navarro to teach him his floater. With the way Rubio gets into the lane, he could get that shot whenever he wants.

If he had a Navarro/D. Rose type floater he would have the potential to collapse defenses at will.

After watching these games, I have a good feeling about how Rubio's game will translate to NBA. Some here already have said that assists are counted a bit different in FIBA game (not to mention that they are playing 40 mins instead 48), so statistically I wouldn't be surprised if he averaged around 10 or more dimes per game (on ~30-35+ min playing time) - his court vision is really special. And considering that in NBA he would be surrounded with more athletic guys than in Europe, which should equal to more alley-oops + add some shooters so he can kick-out for open looks and there you have it - perfect point guard.
I don't think he will ever be a 20pt guy or a defensive stopper - and this is not what you should expect from him. Rubio is what he is - at best, a skinnier version of Jason Kidd with less defense (it depends how he will progress, prevent injuries etc.) - which still would be very awesome. Of course he could end up being too soft (as most of Spanish players - no offense) and end up as Tinsley... It's all up to him - let's wait an see :)

And as for other games from today - Puerto Rico really got robbed there  Was really impressed with JP Ramos - was forgotten about him and he had some nice moves there in the post. Why didn't he stay longer in NBA? Too slow? Attitude problems? Injuries? Just not that good? Or maybe this game was just a fluke

no offense, but Rubio would be crazy to come to the nba as a rookie when he already has superstar status in Europe, or so I've been led to believe. Boy has talent, tho.

It would suck for the T'Wolves if he Fran Vazquezed them.

It's actually PJ Ramos (peter John), but it's not your fault that British announcer kept calling him JP the entire game and I was getting pissed off; lol. Not to mention he kept calling Angel Vassalo, Angle; Angle, really, does he really think someones name is a geometric term? Not to mention he had two correct choices: Angel (like guardian angel) or Ahn-hell (the Spanish pronunciation) yet he chose to call him Angle Vassalo the entire game. Plus he had the annoying British/Long Island/Boston/Australia habit of putting "r's" after peoples names that end in "A", one more JJ Barrear and I was gonna go crazy. But back to your original point, Ramos was amazing; soft hands, ton of great post up moves, natural scorer. Problem is, he'd lose a foot race to a tree sloth.

i feel you. "Fran Vazqwez", "Serjio Jool", "Victor Cláver"

Llull is forgivable I suppose. I think his name is Catalan so maybe the guy is not that far off. But still, I think i put the TV on mute at times.

To come back to the USA-Spain conversation, I really don't understand why people call this a "bad" team USA because James, Kobe, DWade & Dwight arent here .. Durant & Rose would prolly start for the "good" Team USA if they had been here, and talent-wise they are still MILES better than any team in this tournament .. And they happen to have one of the best coaches in the world ..

Spain would be a lot better if they'd go to Gasol more. That guy is so good, so efficient, why not give him the ball more ..

I never realized how big of a scrub Tyson Chandler is. Dude doesn't know how to play defense without fouling. And he has no offensive game. He just converts off of alley-oop dunks, thats about it. I would've rather had JaVale McGee make the team. He's basically a rich-mans Tyson Chandler.

What a game this Croatia - Slovenia. Intense defense and struggle all over the court in an amazing 3- point shooting performance by both teams. SLO 3 up with 5:10 to go.

Tomic got shut down by Brezident today. Not his best performance to say the least.
