Jamal Crawford trade idea

Post#1 » by chube » Tue Aug 31, 2010 7:44 pm

According to a run-through I did on the trade checker, how about we give Atlanta Mike Dunleavy and Brandon Rush in exchange for Jamal Crawford and Maurice Evans?

ATL gets rid of a disgruntled bench player (worthy of starting on some teams) in exchange for two solid bench players in Dunleavy and Rush. Now, ATL will be getting rid of two expiring contracts in Crawford and Evans, and getting one in return (Dunleavy), plus a cheap player still working on a rookie contract (Rush.) So they won't be taking on tons more salary and will have Dunleavy's nasty contract expire at the end of next season, just as they would with Crawford still on the roster.

For Indy, it would be great, especially if they could buy out Evans. For starters, we would finally have a starter-worthy shooting guard in Crawford, leaving Dahntay Jones to come off the bench (like he is half the time anyway) and wouldn't lose any flexibility for the 2011 off-season (we would actually get a little more with the loss of Rush and/or buyout of Evans.) Plus...it would give Indy more room to sign Magnum Rolle to a fairly cheap contract and test his worth as a big man for the Pacers. Then, if Crawford were to stick around and re-sign, great! If not, we're in the same place flexibility-wise as we would've been before the deal (again, a little more so because of no Rush.)

So in the end, it's pretty close to a wash. Financially, ATL would still be in a similar place and Indy would be slightly better. Roster-wise, neither team will really be creating any holes since Crawford, Evans, Dunleavy, and Rush are all wing players. But it solves tension problems for Atlanta and Indy gets rid of an inconsistent player in Rush (who recently got busted for drugs.)

Replace Evans with Jordan Crawford and sounds great. Then buy out Solo or McSuck and sign Rolle

I don't see Indy getting better from an undersized SG taking minutes away from George and Dahntay (who I really, REALLY want to see get more minutes although he doesn't fit so well in the system). It just feels like a lateral move. I think we can get good play out of Dunleavy in his expiring season and move him for something better than another expiring.

I agree, we gotta develop George and I think Jones deserves more minutes as well

Since when was Jamal Crawford "disgruntled"? He wants to meet with the team to discuss a contract extension because his contract is up after this season. That doesn't mean he's disgruntled.

And why would Atlanta trade Jamal Crawford's expiring contract and only get back Mike Dunleavy's expiring contract and Brandon Rush? Their GM would have to be an idiot to do that trade.

I like Jamal Crawford but we need a PF.
