My main man Robin Soderling had to work pretty hard to secure a win over some guy I've never heard of. That was a bit of a surprise. Been a relatively average day of tennis, a few players had to work hard to advance, but nothing to get overly excited about.

Waiting eagerly for Murray to break through and grab one. I'm not an "avid" watcher, but I know that dude is a beast.

I cannot believe more people didn't comment on this. This is one of the greatest plays in sports history, IMO.

I was following along all day and it looked like there were some pretty interesting matches, including some pretty decent upsets (Na Li, Marcos Baghdatis). Can't wait to watch the replays.

Sharapova getting handled right now in the first set of her opening match.

This shot probably happens 3-4 times per year on the ATP tour, so calling it one of the greatest plays in sports history is a bit of an exaggeration. Federer has pulled it off himself in the past as well. Granted, Federer has it perfected to the point where he can hit it off the line, there have been moments where he has tried it and failed. I think he tried it against Del Potro on match point in the 4th set of the US Open if I am not mistaken and lost the point and the match in 5 sets.

He also missed a huge tweener in the Aussie Open against Safin (04? 05). If I'm not mistaken it was during the tie break as well, and a hugeeeee loss for the Fed.

Had an interview with Jelena Jankovic on ESPN and my first thought was "That's a chick?!?"

Yeah, thats probably when it was. I remember he tried pulling one off in a big situation in a grandslam and it didn't work.

Nadal looks like he has some blisters in the first set. Took off his shoes and cutting tape off. Has some nasty looking curved big toe.

This is going to be redundant because they talked about it ad nauseum during the match, most notably the third set, but Nadal is in good position right now despite the first two sets being closely contested. Why? His service game was absolutely great. He was hitting percentage wise and getting good contact, but he also added speed often. As McEnroe mentioned during the match, it's possible Nadal hit the three hardest serves he's hit during match play of his career during tonight's match. On the other hand, his return game was not up to par with how it usually is, and combined with Gabashvili playing a very solid match, it made for two closely contested sets. Nadal eventually got his return game together, though, and easily took over at the end of the match.

It will be interesting to see how well he is able to integrate his return game and defense with the serve he showed tonight. The extra power on his serve could help negate the negative effects his offensive game has otherwise given the speed of the courts at this tournament.

Damn, just got home from work and saw that Azarenka collapsed during her match and had to be taken off the court in a wheelchair. That's crazy.

Wow, I was wondering what happened. I saw that she retired but was unable to check what for.
