Does Brewer start for us this year?

With all the new additions at the wing position, do you think Brewer starts for the pups this year?

With all due respect to Corey, I hope not. I'm just fascinated by the Flynn/Johnson/Beasley/Love/Millicic group

Probably. Webster and Johnson if Beasley doesn't work out as a SF. I don't see them starting Brewer if Webster is anywhere close to Brewer in terms of production because Brewer will be a RFA and likely won't be back next season.

Yeah Webster, Beasley, or Johnson will beat him out. I think Brewer might be traded anyways, unless he improves even more than last season, which i'm sure won't happen. I believe what we saw from Brewer last season is how he's gonna be down the road. Could be wrong though, will be interesting to see.

Webster is a clear starter, and so is Beasley.

I think Brewer has a some more improvements in him. Certainly the Wolves have a lot of assets at the wing. I think if Corey gets traded, he will be one of the first guys to go that represent real skill going out the door, which shows how much progress we've made. I think a lot remains to be seen in terms of how Beas plays at the 3 and how W. Johnson comes along as a rookie, but given that all of those look like pretty good outcomes from three-four months out, I wonder if Corey might not get traded.

That being said, the fact is that the Timberwolves have put a lot into him and the coaches have shown a lot of confidence in his growth. It makes me think that they want to keep him around. A lot would depend on how much flexibility he shows with regards to his role. Last year he developed a ton a basketball player. This year may be about filling the coaches needs and plans for him.

There will be a training camp competition for sure. Brewer has a good shot since he's probably the most adept at guarding 2's (b/t him, Snipes, and Stringer) and has a year of learning our offense under his belt.

1) If I was going to make a prediction I would say yes... but only for the first 15 games or so because he has experience in the offense.
2) After Brewer, Webster will take it for the middle of the season (30 games give or take) but will be the sixth man when not starting.
3) Johnson will then take over the starting position tell the end of the season

Just what I'm thinking nut Brewer will loose minutes through the entire season if not traded or improves.

P.S. Brewer has a nice smile :D

Webster certainly has not proven to be starter material ... nor has Ellington.

Obviously we do not have clear cut starters and these new topics prove it. Rambis will look for his best players first, then try to enhance chemistry by trial and error. The "starters" topic is irrelevant for a team like the Wolves since they lack star players ... it's all about personnal preference and speculation at this point.

How successful has Brewer been playing the 2?

+1 To a certain extent, I hope the coaching staff is given free reign to play the guys that earn P.T. and give the team the best chance to win (while sneaking in some developmental P.T. for the rookies) rather than spending another year trying to play the guys the front office thinks should play. My guess is Brewer is good enough to earn more than his share of playing time whether it be starting or coming off the bench.

Brewer spent most of last year as a 2. Previous years it seemed like he played more 3. He had his best year last year, but that is probably more attributable to his development than the position he played. He has the size and athleticism to play either.

I'm rooting for Brewer, but I suspect he's the odd man out down the road. We just traded for Webster, drafted Johnson, and traded for Beas. I think either Brewer or Beas is gone by midseason. Brewer's out if Beasley can play the 3, and Beasley is gone if Brewer's playing well enough to start or be the 6th man and if Johnson is really showing something. I don't think Webster goes anywhere simply because we actually gave out an asset for him.

I don't know that a decision will be made by midseason, it could, but it could also be like Ryan Gomes last season. I think we'll probably wait until next offseason to decide what happens with Brewer unless something legitimately good comes along.

I agree that Brewer will probably be gone sometime (thus bringing us ever closer to getting rid of all of McHale's players :) ), but I don't think Beasley will be traded away. In my mind, it would take a couple years of Beasley doing nothing for Brewer to outstrip Beasley in value, on potential alone.

Brewer gets a bad rap imo. Post Jan 1 last season his per 36 was: 16.3/3.6/3/1.5, obv not gaudy but great 6th man role player. Esp. in the system we run. He can play several positions too depending on the lineups.

He's an underrated passer and can rebound his position. Is a pesky off the ball defender too. If he just had a decent handle...

I'm certain he starts.

I don't know how you can be certain with Johnson, Webster and Beasley on the team.

I agree with you on Beasley's value vs Brewers. The only way I see Beasley going first is if he's clearly better as a 4 and we stay with Love. Then I think we try to package him with a couple other assets and get a disgruntled star. Or at least a higher return than what we paid for him.

Yay I agree.

+1. Especially with most people disagreeing.

Unless he is Rambis. Then he wins.
