Tonight Dustin "Sugar Shane" Mosley takes the hill. Right now, the Yanks rotation is desperately trying to stabilize itself with two rookies Mosley and Nova. Andy Pettitte's impending return could be that solution but is it enough to fight off the Tampa Bay Rays?

Hughes could be on a 5 inning limit. His arm has never been this many innings on the professional level. What a breakout season but the Yanks must keep that arm intact and save it for the post season where he could be the difference maker as a #4 starter.

Can AJ Burnett buy a win? He may have to.

CC trying to get to 20 wins...unfortunately, not sure the Yanks can get him rest before the Post season, a strategy that they used last season in order to get CC to pitch on short rest.

Cahill got his butt kicked. Came in on a great stretch of starts and didn't last more than 4 innings, 9 hits, 8 runs.

Yea, the offense definitely delivered because when I saw the yanks down by three in the first, i was like oh ****, Mosley has got nothing.

Good ol'Javier giving up 1 run on two hits in two innings. At least Cash will finally admit his mistake along with Pavano and Burnett.

Nice to see the offense come alive when its banged up. Thames will definitely get credit as an unsung hero if we win the division, he has more than made up for ARod in his absence and has saved our a**.

Pretty that Girardi stated that Phil is on an innings limit for the year but all bets are off once it comes to the playoffs.

Everyone has been estimating that the innings limit is about 180, and right now he is at 150. With 30 games to go, that leaves 6 starts (at 5 innings per start)...so they actually wouldn't need to skip him if they just pull him after 5.

It would probably be better to skip him once (once Pettitte is back we will have Moseley/Nova to take Hughes' spot for a start, or even Vazquez) so that he will have 5 starts left, giving him 6 innings a start. I think that would be better, since you don't want to train his arm to go 5 innings for the last month of the season.

Personally, I don't understand why they go by innings. I've always felt pitch count would be more logical. If Hughes throws 100 pitches in 5 innings or 100 pitches in 7 innings, then the 7 innings looks more taxing on his arm. In my opinion, 100 pitches in 5 innings is the more taxing game, because he had to throw more in less time and probably faced more baserunners and tight spots. But thats just me.

If the Yanks had any breathing room, they'd shut down Hughes right now.

Today, he wasn't very sharp at all. I think there were few innings where he was pitching with men on. Although I am proud of Hughes, he got away with an anemic A's line up. Still, a win is a win.

Teixiera is locked in and we can only hope that A-Rod gets into a groove when he returns.

AJ does take the mound today, but the good thing is the Yankees can't leave this series with anything less then a split, and have CC going tomorrow. This has been a very good series for the Yankees, the bats are finally starting to come alive. Tex, Cano, Swisher, Posada, and Thames are all hitting down the stretch, can't ask for anything more then that. Between that and the Yankees getting back A-Rod & Pettite, they are looking in good shape.

Estaban Loaiza never had Burnett's velocity...and IS IT Possible...could it be, a good pitching performance by AJ!!!!!

Mark Teixiera is locked in and carrying the offense. Perfect time too. One can only hope that as he continues to hit well that A-Rod gets more looks when he returns.
