Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista was named the American League Player of the Month for August.
Bautista torrid month-long stretch with the bat saw him lead the A.L. in home runs (12), RBI (24), slugging percentage (.724) and total bases (72), while tying for the lead in extra-base hits (18). He also finished tied for second with 23 runs and was third with 23 walks.
August was Bautista's third month of the season as the league leader in home runs, a Toronto franchise record, with his 43 setting the major-league pace.
Bautista became the only Blue Jays player to ever hit at least 10 home runs in three different months of a year and shared monthly honors with Minnesota's Delmon Young in July. Before Bautista's July honors, no Toronto player had won since Joe Carter in April of 1994.
