2008 Jets Roster Thread

Post#1 » by Jose7 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 8:07 pm

QB: Clemens vs Chad - Honestly Tangini, I cant see them passing up a nice offer if we get one for Chad but it seems like he'll be here for the long haul and battle Kellen for the 2008 QB spot.

HB: Thomas Jones & Leon Washington - Personally, I really like this combination and TJ had an underwhelming year but we have a garbage, one of the worst offensive lines in the league... I think this is not a position of need but if a Jonathan Stewart, Rashard Mendenhall drops to round 2, of course you draft them but that won't be the case.

TE: I really like Chris Baker. He needs to work on picking up blitzes but he has tremendous hands, possibly the best hands on our team. We definitely need to use him more.

FB: We need one desperately... Late in the draft, a versatile H-Back who can catch or block.. Barnes is gone, believe he is with the Bills.

WR: Cotchery at this point is good but not a #1 and he doesn't have breakaway speed. He is a terrific possession receiver, he's one of my favorite jets and he's important to this team. Coles, I have no idea if we are going to keep him or not. He's injury prone... he's getting older, not sure if he'll be here. We need depth in this position. We need to get rid of Brickcariens. David Ball and Clowney are unproven, we need to address this area.

Offensive Line: Oh my god, terrible. D'Brick regressed but it doesn't help when you have the worst OG in the league in Adrian Clarke. He is gone. Also we cannot have Clement and Brandon Moore is average at best. We need to address this in FA and in the draft, bottom line.

Defensive line: probably our 2nd biggest need.... we need a real NT and rumors are that DeWayne Robertson is on his way out.. I like Coleman but he's average at best and Shaun Ellis hasn't been good since Abraham was traded. We need to upgrade badly with some pass rush here.

Linebackers: Harris is a monster, keeper. Barton is trash, good for depth but not a legit NFL starter. Our ends are terrible... My god, Bryan Thomas what a huge bust and Victor Hobson is not an OLB, nor does he have the size.. I'd keep him if it were cheap as backup ILB but he's likely to move on. We really need to fill this position via the draft, there are many good OLB what will be available and some ILBs too.

Secondary, I really like our secondary. Obviosly, Rhodes and Revis are keepers. Elam showed flashes of being a worthy starter and Eric Smith played well too. We will get Justin Miller back so we automatically add speed and hopefully convert him to a full time nickle. Hank Poteat is good for depth but we need a better starter. Obviously Samuel is a big time FA but he costs way too much and this draft is definitely full of bgi time CB prospects. Personally, I'd rather pick up a solid FA to be the #2 CB on this team..

oh ya, we must get rid of Ben Graham.

QB: I don't think there's an issue here. We have Clemens who'll battle with Pennington to start. But I just don't see the point of having Chad, we don't need him. But the real question is, who'd want him?

RB: I think we're fine here, it was just our O-line and FB that made it seem sucky. But TJ and Leon I thought did a great job despite the horrible blocking they were getting.

FB: Moe said it best, what a wasted move. Hopefully we can fill this need in the draft or free agency.

TE: From what I've seen, I truly believe Baker has one of the best hands as a TE, he's also a good route runner, hopefully next year whoever is our QB can throw more balls towards him so that he can prove that he's the top tier TE I believe he can become.

WR: Cotchery is a good WR. But that's it, good. He's a possession WR and would be pretty much useless if he's the only WR we have, since he doesn't have downfield threat and there's no one else who can accompany him. Coles is good as gone, I like the dude, but I don't see him as a Jet next year, I've heard that he might also be on his to the Jags. Hopefully we can get a WR in the 3rd round, maybe Manningham.

OL: Our OL sucks, plain and simple. Adrian Clarke doesn't deserve to start and so does Clement. Moore is a good started and won't be anything more than that. Hopefully if the reports are true, that we pursue Faneca, he'll give us that nasty, mean , rough, no-nonesense steak our run blocking needs. Also, hopefully in the 2nd round we can draft someone like Chris Williams, this guy is a stud and would love him at RT.

DL: Coleman I thought had a great year last year. He did everything he was asked and was our most productive D-linemen by a MILE. DRob is good as gone, hopefully we can get at least a 5th rounder or something for him. I'd like to have Balmer at NT if we can pick him up, another guy on my radar is Trevor Laws, none stop motor. I'd also love Shaun Rogers there, but I don't want to give up more than a 4th. Ellis also needs to be replaced, he doesn't fit the scheme. Hopefully we can draft someone here or try to sign Tommy Kelly.

LB: Harris is a stud. nuff said. Hobson needs to move inside where I think he can be more productive as he doesn't have the size or speed to break the outside. Thomas had a decent season, it would've been better if he had someone to support him on the other side. Now my wish for the draft is get Gholston. But I'd be more ecstatic if we can trade with the Cowboys and take Branden Albert with the 22nd, and Harvey/Groves with the 28th. I also don't mind waiting for at least the 3rd round and take Avril, this guy was a stud at the combine, I think he got a 4.51 40 yard run. Maybe take a linemen in the 1st and 2nd (O or D). Also Rosevelt Colvin has just been released, he'd be a gret pick-up for us.

Secondary: Revis and Rhodes are gonna be the cornerstones for our D for many years. Revis is a great CB and has shutdown potential. Rhodes is a great playmaking safety. Elam had some bright spots and the rest of our CBs are only nickel material at best. I don't mind taking Jenkins with our pick, but I'd like Moe's idea when we move down and hopefully we can take Cromartie, this guy is a stud, he has size, speed, balls skills etc. I don't think Samuel would come to us, but I'd love it if he did. I also wouldn't mind signing Fernando Bryant.

ok... after the moves, roster looking quite nice.

QB: Clemens/Pennington
- I don't think Chadwick will be a Jet in 2008. Mangini says they'll compete for a QB job but someone is going to come a knocking on draft day and we cannot have him backing up with a 7M cap number, no way he's a Jet next year. I feel that we will pick up another young QB in the later rounds of the draft and pick up a veteran QB on the cheap via FA.

HB: Jones/Washington/Chatman
- We are looking real deep here. Consider this, we had 1902 total yards from LOS from the running back position last year with one of the worst offensive lines and left sides in the league. Jesse Chatman will provide good depth for our team.

FB: Richardson
- Pro Bowler who is still a terrific run blocker, who will play a big role for our running game.

TE: Baker/Franks
- Solid addition in Franks but he will only be used as a red zone target because in the open field, his hinds are bricks. Baker has great speed and some of the best hands in the league at the TE position. We must use him more, he's so good for us when the ball is thrown to him.

WR: Coles/Cotchery/Smith/Wright
- A Coles deal is supposedly supposed to be hapenning and that's good. He's obviously on the down side but he should have 2-3 good years left and Cotchery is emerging as a great #2 option, possible a good #1 option in the future. Smith is a project but he is not a legit #3 WR, we must address this in the 2nd round of the draft, no doubt.

OL: Ferguson/Faneca/Mangold/Moore/Woody
- Faneca just makes makes this group so much better. Wow, that's all I will say, he is going to do wonders for us. Woody is so much better then the terrible Clement, it's just an amazing job by the front office. We have some projects in Bender and Montgomery as well.

DL: Ellis/Jenkins/Coleman
- Jenkins is that big stud that we need in the middle. We need his fat ass right in the middle taking up 2 guys and letting David Harris and the rest of the crew be that much better. I like Coleman, he's very solid especially against the run but Ellis is getting older and he hasn't been that good since Abraham left. We need to improve the front 3 by adding some youth. I like Mosley as a backup for pass rushing but we need some more. Pouha is a project, he looked good at times last year but he can't be depended on.

LB: Thomas-Barton-Harris-Pace
- Pace is going to be a very good addition I believe. He has the size and speed to play the 3-4 OLB. He got paid and he will have to produce. Bryan Thomas will either have to have a good season this year or he will be cut next year. Barton is good for depth but we must address the MLB issue in the draft this year. If we don't trade our #6 I can see us packaging our 4th round picks and moving up to the 3rd and picking up an ILB.

DB: Revis/Elam/Rhodes/Miller
- Revis is a stud, he's going to be one of the best CBs in the league for the next decade. Size, strength, speed and he's a sure tackler. Elam I really liked what I saw from him. He just needs to make sure he's hitting the opponents and not his own teammates lol. Rhodes is one of the best safeties in the league, we need to EXTEND this man ASAP... I can see us addressing the CB position in the draft if the FO has no confidence in Miller and Barrett.

K:Nugent / P: Graham
- Nuge still not worth the 2nd round pick we drafted him with but he was solid. Graham needs to go, dude is just terrible!!!

The draft is going to be big for us as we still have some holes.

Miller cant cover and Barrett is f'n slow and cant cover, that's why he gets so many tackles. i guess we're ok at saftey but we def need another cb opposite of revis.

Grahmn is ok i like him.

We need another reciever.

Did you see Miller in the second half of 2006? He was excellent. I agree about Barrett, his problem is inconsistency. Sometimes he looks awesome, but more than not he looks bad.
