UGH! Idiot Missing the 2008 Draft!

Post#1 » by emperorjones » Mon Mar 24, 2008 2:50 pm

What an idiot- I booked a 12+ hour flight to Ethiopia that boards an hour before day one of the draft starts. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. I won't even have internet access on day 2. Its the first draft I'll miss in over 20 years.

:nonono:

I know this doesn't deserve its own thread, but its pretty dead over here.

It's the NFL Draft, it's not like it's stimulating television

maybe not for you :) but you're talking about a guy who hangs on pick by pick through 4 or 5 rounds hoping my guys drop to the bears. Definitely Must see TV for me. Seeing the results after the fact will be like having some other kid open your Christmas presents and telling you what you got. Just not the same.

Haha, I do that to... it's funny when they don't pick up the guys you want eventhough they drop to them.

Notable guys: Sinorice Moss, that OLB from New Mexico last year, Byron Leftwich w/ that 4th pick

^^^^I'm glad I was wrong about these guys

Ouch. That hurts. Before I had kids, I was in the same boat. I'd have at least 4 rounds mocked up by January. On draft day, I had all the Kiper books and updates laid out, colored markers all ready with pizza and beverages at my side ready and my wife sent out for the day. Good times.

Nowadays I watch the first round then I loosely monitor the rest of the draft as the day goes on.

What brings you to Ethiopia? Just curious (seeing as it IS dead around here).

I'm going to be teaching a seminar on international trade negotiations at their law school starting the Monday after the draft. That weekend I'm going to be touring around without phone or internet. Its too late to change my flight because others have committed to the same flight.

Good fun!

Well, if it makes you feel any better....take a look at the Bears' Day 2 picks from last year : Wolfe, Okwo, Beekman, Payne, Graham, McBride, Brant. I think you can handle missing similar picks this year, eh ??

You had a good 20yr+ run though !

I was almost in the same boat. I am booking a trip to Vegas with a few friends as a graduation celebration, and our original plans had me missing the draft. It worked out that our flights won't leave until 2 days after the draft, but I was kind of pissed that I could have missed the draft, even though it was for an amazing trip.

The hour or two that it will take to get to the Bears first round pick will be some of the most entertaining television of the year.

Haha, maybe you'll get lucky and have your flight delayed so at least you can say you saw the beginning of the draft.

Seriously though, I hope you have fun in Ethopia and I'll watch the entire draft for you

I'd rather be traveling around Africa then watching the NFL draft.

Last year I watched the whole first round of the NFL Draft and I felt like killing myself when it was done 8 hours later.

Well, you'll all be pleased to know time between 1st round picks will be cut to 10 minutes this year (from 15) and teams will have 7 minutes (from 10) in the 2nd round. Teams will still have 5 mins in the last 5 rounds. Last year's first round actually lasted 6 hours and 8 minutes (!) - a record.

Not sure if I can get used to it starting at 2pm CST, though. Kind of got used to that 11am time slot.

So, basically you'll be the only Bears fan not gritting their teeth on draft day. Actually, I fail to see this as a bad thing. A colossal screw up is coming on Angelo's part. In the long run, you might thank yourself for missing this horror show.
