Pacman Jones possibly linked to Pats
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3305060
I would not mind seeing him come over for a 4th or 5th round pick. We need some young talent and I think with the Pats strong staff they can take someone with a questionable character and make him shut up and just produce. Look what they did with Cory Dillion, Randy Moss... He would be our first or second best corner and he could help with the return game.
What does everyone think?

pacman would be our best corner. as much as i have huge concerns about his character, i have no concerns about his talent. he is one of the most talented corners in the league. if the pats feel he could fit in and finally settle down and grow into his skills, ill accept the move with trepidation. in bill and scott i trust.

If the Moss trade taught us anything, it's this: people get too hung up on players having "issues", and the perceived low market value on such players makes them worth a gamble. Pacman is in murkier water than Moss was, but still, if we can get him for something like a later round pick and drop a one-strike rule on him, it's worth doing.

What has Pacman actually done, though? I know he goes to strip clubs and throws money at strippers and some bouncer ended up paralyzed at a club Pacman went to, but has he been convicted of any crimes? I think most of his arrests/offenses have been traffic violations and petty nonsense.
I was originally against it, but I'd be all for giving up a 3-7th round pick for Pacman at this point assuming Belichick thought he'd be reinstated.
Plus it would be awesome to hear people talk about how evil the Patriots are with Spygate, Rodney Harrison on HGH, Belichick rushing the field during the Super Bowl, running up the score and now Pacman Jones the Hitler reincarnate. That stuff is hilarious to listen to and seems to fuel the Patriots.
I think it'd be a shame if they didn't look into this, only to see him go to Dallas for a 5th round pick and watch him stay out of trouble for the rest of his career.
Has Jones done anything since being suspended? I've heard no news.

So, assault, a bunch of nonsense and he was seemingly indirectly involved with some dudes shooting another dude and paralyzing him? Snore.
Come to New England, Adam.

Alleged offenses included assault, felony vandalism, public intoxication, obstruction of justice, and even multiple spitting incidents. PacMan's prodigious body of misbehavior culminated during the NBA all-star break in Las Vegas last February when a money-tossing free-for-all at a strip club led to a shooting that ultimately paralyzed the victim.

Just look at the last three drafts, fourth round and later. 19 picks have produced James Sanders, Gostkowski, LeKevin Smith, Willie Andrews, Ryan O'Callaghan, and Matt Cassel.
So a one in five chance at producing a backup for the chance at Pacman Jones.

pacman is scum in my book too, but im not so bull headed to admit that the public perception could be overblown (for example, as much as many public perceptions about the pats outside of NE)
and while i think we are one of the best drafting teams there is, the risk with pacman is does he behave, not is he good enough and not can he play, and certainly even we draft our fair share of busts.

if we did add pacman, its entirely possible, as long as we can keep LB stabilized, that wed be better than last year. i expect the oline to be better, and if morris is healthy our running game will be tight, and i expect seymour to be fully healthy, and so attract more attention and free up warren to have the type of year he had two years ago

Well, it's a good thing your book is only six pages long and half of them are illustrations.[/jokes]
Really, from a pure football standpoint, would you rather the Patriots sign a bunch of broken-down, cast-aside, past-their-prime free agents and hope one sticks or trade a mid-draft pick for one of the three most talented cornerbacks in the game?
It's not like the Patriots are going to put up with any off-field BS from him. And there's precedent for this type of acquistion; granted neither Dillon nor Moss had the degree of notoriety as Pacman, but most of that outrage is media-fueled, Goodell-abetted nonsense. Ray Lewis has been associated with worse and I don't think anybody here would have a problem if the Pats were interested in him.

boston herald blog currently reporting pats are "not interested"
http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sport ... ion=recent
considering our cb situation and belichick/pioli's willingness to avoid locking into money for players who may not deserve it, those sound like strong words. theyre coming from second hand source albert breer so who knows.
my two thoughts: if were "not interested" in pacman, id almost rule out using the 7 on a corner
and dallas does not seem like the best place for a player like pacman who has shown he is easily influenced by other people. imagine handling pacman and TO
