Shaq taking shots at mo???

Post#1 » by Dupp » Sun Sep 5, 2010 3:39 am

http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/artic ... ms/3168605

"I like that they play together and nobody really worries about shots, " O'Neal said. "When I was with Cleveland, guys who couldn't even play were worried about shots. Why was Mo (Williams) taking 15 shots, and I'm only taking four? If LeBron takes 20 shots, that's cool.

"So I said, let me get with a good team for the last two years. I don't mind people calling me a journeyman. I've been programmed to move around every three years."

I pretty much stole this thread straight off the general board, i thought it would be better discussed here.

There was some debate whether or not shaq was indeed taking a shot at mo for taking too many shots or saying someone else was complaining about the number of shots they got compared to mo.

The only person that would make sense to me if it wasn't shaq complaining would be gibson. But even then i would think he's beef would be with mike brown.

Which brings me to a bit of a sub topic. What actually went on with gibson last year, he played some very good minutes when mo was out then was virtually unseen. I heard he had some "personal" issues but was there anything more then that? Did him and brown have any issues at all? and/or did brown just not like playing him? I thought we should have given him some more minutes but don't really know the whole story.

So thoughts? insight on the two situations....

it's funny that so many people seem to care about players that no longer play for the Cavs. I however am not one of them.

It's pretty funny how Shaq says that he likes how nobody worries about shots, then complains about shots in the next sentence.

Oh and Mo averaged 12.4 shot attempts per game last season (probably less when we traded for Jamison). Shaq averaged 8.4.

Shaq does complain a lot bout shots doesn't he, that won't fly on the Celtics this year.

I see what his problem with Mo Williams is that his shot selection is poor taking lots of deep threes. He has always been that type of player, shoot 1st ask questions later. Let's say without Lebron this year he will be exposed. Look at his years with the Bucks. I see the cavs trading him soon, he will not be a good piece on a rebuilding team.

He is a good scorer but has poor shot selection. I expect a low percentage from the field maybe around 40-42 percent, good three point shot at 37%. Shaq makes a higher percentage of his shots, he saying Mo isn't that good. They really reminded of a more better version of the sixers back in the day with Allen Iverson, obviously because Lebron is a way better so they won more games then the sixers.

This is clearly Shaq complaining about the team, and was confirmed by an insider on RCF.

First and foremost, it wasn't Gibson complaining about shots. Gibson has however said the exact thing that many of us complained about previously "why didn't he get more playing time". That is a good question, but I see no legitimacy to the shots question for anyone on the team. And, anyone complaining or even arguing about Mo's shooting on the Cavs or the Bucks. His shooting percentages were not significantly up as a Cavalier therefore, I don't think you can argue that it'd take that much of a hit because of no LeBron. He's a career .448 shooter and shot .442 last year while he shot .480 in his last year as a Buck. The big change will likely be that he just won't be taking as many 3's.

Actually when you look at /36 numbers, Shaq averaged 13.4 while Mo averaged 13.

I really, really hope that's the case. In Cleveland, the only "star" was LeBron, so Shaq probably thought he was better than most, if not all, of the other players. In Boston, you have multiple stars (although all except Rondo are past their prime, but still). Hopefully they will be able to keep Shaq in his place. It'd be really disappointing to see Shaq go in and derail the team by screwing up chemistry.

I think Shaq respects veterans like Ray Allen,Paul Pierce,Kevin Garnett,Jermaine O'neal all from his generation, who he played against a lot of times in big playoff games. Your logic is correct, Shaq really didn't respect anyone on the cavs besides Lebron. Including he questioned Mike Brown who had some weird playoff rotations with how he played the bigs, no consistency.

Taken out of context. He's quoting some guy saying. "why is Mo taking 20 shots, but I'm only taking 4".

I wonder whether he really respected Lebron or just saw him as possibly a ticket to another championship.

Not true. Maximus on RCF confirmed it was Shaq complaining.

I don't think Mo was aggressive enough. He should have put up more shots the whole year. When Shaq came back from injury he should have not been put back in the starting lineup.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved
