HE looked like a pretty low level talent from what I saw on the highlights, so I was wondering what it actually looked like live. U.S is in pretty dire need of young talent. EVen the guys doing well now are older late bloomers.

This type of discussion always evokes Donald Young talk. I bring him up because he lost in the first round...again. It's pretty bad that they don't even talk about the guy any more - four years ago he was the next John McEnroe. Talk about dropping off of a cliff. His career was handled poorly, though.

In what way was his career handled poorly ? I know my own first impression of him was fairly negative. Didn't look like a hard worker at all. Also heard some talk that he fell into the rapper crowd, kind of like your own TJ Ford.

Very interesting contrast of styles in this Monfils-Tipsarevic match. Playing the first set tiebreak right now.

Also on a side note, how can there not be coverage of the Djokovic-Blake match tonight outside of the Tennis Channel. That is total BS.

ESPN3 might have it. It'll be on the US Open website as well.

I don't know of anyone who even has the Tennis Channel

Somebody needs to tell John McEnroe how to pronunce Paul-Henri Mathieu's last name. The "math" part is pronounced "mat" The H is silent. This is driving me nuts.

Don't think he deserves to have his name pronounced correctly the way he is playing. Just double faulted away two games.

That would have pretty bad if Fish couldn't beat Clement. All of the guys on that side of the bracket have to be licking their chops as a semifinals spot is really there for the taking, esp if Blake takes out the d-joker. Too bad joker isn't playing someone who would deliberately take advantage of his temper.

His trainers and coaches. His career ended up being dictated by his former-tennis-playing parents, and essentially he was not allowed to get other coaches. They also were the ones to dictate when he turned pro, and it's overwhelmingly believed that he did so before he was ready. Because he did so well in the junior ranks, too, and he received all of these expectations and got all of the hype he did, he ended up having a "posse" like a rockstar at the age of 15. I think that took some of his focus off of tennis. He probably had an 'I've already got this in the bag' mentality.

I'm not trying to say none of it is his fault, as I agree about him not being a very hard worker and have heard of such things myself, but his career was just handled poorly from the start. I think as a result of that, his career never took off.

Nadal's been going out with her for a long time. I think he name is Zisca. They've talked about her a couple times during his matches.

I see that JJ lost - if you took the under, you were right (and also not exactly Nostradamus). Sharapova blanked Carpa. Wozniacki dropped one game. And Blake did not upset Djokovic.

Sam Querrey looking good in a straight set win over Almagro. He'll get the winner of Murray/Wawrinka. Clijsters and V. Williams through as well.

Got home from work to see that Murray went down. Wawrinka isn't a bad player but Murray is quickly becoming a guy who can't step up in the majors. It's all well and good to beat the Federers and Nadals en route to winning a few side events but it's time to produce more big time results in the majors.

Stosur vs Dementieva is probably the best match on the women's side so far. Shame nobody can watch it, at least not legally.

I was at a wedding all day, but saw hat Murray went down. I was following along on my phone (shame on me, I know). Pretty interesting stuff there. Also, Nadal won convincingly in straight sets it appears. Haven't paid much attention to all else that's happened...

Monflis is playing absurd defense right now.
