Hey Bern

I forget if White was the only back signed in his class? If so, are the staff in on any impressive backs for this years class because it seems like they sign at least one each year and i see zero chance Clay stays for a senior season even if he doesn't get a 1st round projection?

1) Depends upon what you consider Jeff Lewis.
2) They're recruiting some RBs - one from WI committed to Iowa (some consider him an "athlete" - same goes for Lewis), there are some others I just don't have the energy to detail...
3) Don't assume anyone is leaving with how up in the air next year's NFL season is.

I admit I have not read the whole thread but from what I have read, Clay looks good. However looking at him physically, Clay looks really fat. Am I the only one thinking so and worried about his conditioning? Seriously UNLV is very different from the BCS elite and I was hoping Clay would be in much better shape.

I am watching my DVR recording and it looks like our OLine dominated UNLV. I liked Clay last year but even Ball seemed to gain a ton of yards in this game at ease when the line was blocking well. UNLV just can't handle our line play IMO.

Honestly tolzein does not look nearly good enough to be an elite level college qb. I have a feeling that the 8-12 level ranking is about the best we can do with him at the helm.

I concur about Clay's declaration virtually being imminent. Even if there is a lockout he's probably not coming back. Otherwise he'd be a 23-24 year old redshirt senior and a 24-25 year old NFL rookie. Might as well wait it out at home, getting some more of momma's delicious cooking, rather than put yet more tread on the tires, which have a very limited amount because of his position and size. I'd personally recommend that he leaves in spite of being a fan. Also, I'd recommend tripling up on the exercise if he's going continue shoveling food into his face during another offseason.

As far as running back prospects, Mike provided the answer about the existing ones.

As far as recruits, they have an outside chance at a stud from New Jersey named Savon Huggins, and the same to flip the in-state back that Mike alluded to (Melvin Gordon). Outside of that I'm not aware of any other legit backs on the radar. Although I haven't been following recruiting as much this year. I think it's very possible, maybe even likely, that a standout emerges if the Badgers continue to run frequently, and everybody does so effectively also but Ball. Then there's golden opportunity for a bruiser to seize carries off the bat and compliment White.

On an unrelated note, Dude, how are the flu symptoms progressing? Any of the remedies have a discernible effect?

Somehow I left that town with a couple extra hundreds than I came into it with...

But skipping the overpriced tickets for the game may have helped that.

I have more energy now. Last post of mine was from 3 something in the morning. I'll expand upon what Bern added (Huggins, Gordon).

I think Huggins is a long shot. Maybe that would change if Clay has a Heisman-esque year - who knows. We're also after a kid from Missouri names Darrian Miller. I have not watched any of his highlights yet, but he's a smaller statured back (5'10, 180) and is likely a shifty runner. As of right now, there's not as much competition for him as there is for Huggins, but that's not to say there's no competition there. A couple months back I had heard that Iowa was the early favorite. There's also Tray Durham, who is a bigger back that some are recruiting as a FB. I think Wisconsin could offer him a look at RB though if he chose us. He's visiting for the OSU game.

It's worth noting that in 2012, Wisconsin will have Vonte Jackson as a potential in-state recruit. He's teammates with Iowa commit Melvin Gordon and acts as his backup right now. There's going to be competition for him, although we are the only team to offer as of yet, but I like our chances. He's the only in-state 2012 player we've offered so far. They think highly of him.

Thanks for the info. BTW, why are you not following recruiting as much given i thought you ran a recruiting website? To much work?

As for the flu, i should have gone to the Bucks board and threw out another thanks to everyone nice enough to respond, but didn't think about it until your post. A few things did seem to help. I can't really take baths in my apartment, not comfortable fit with my body. I did though sit and take a long long hot shower. It did help more than anything to relax my battered psyche which was teetering after four straight days of misery inducing illness like i've never felt before.

Besides that, i put down a bunch of Tylenol which i hadn't taken at all because since i've never had a real high fever before, i didn't know how important Tylenol was in helping break my fever which was the main crux of my misery. Finally, i simply forced myself to take in more fluids than i had to that point. It felt like i was putting down a lot of mainly water those first four days, but when my piss was a darkish shade of brown sometimes, obviously it wasn't enough and i was dehydrated. I couldn't help it though because my gut would get so bloated feeling with fluids, i would lessen the intake as i'd actually hear my stomach sloshing. Once my fever started breaking some the following day and by forcing myself to drink more often in lesser doses which lessened my dehydration, it was largely gone by Monday.

Then again, that stuff destroyed me so hard over about 5-6 days, i kinda feel like i have an illness "hangover" still lingering. Feeling very lethargic still and my dog barking like crazy earlier today at a neighbor he hates triggered a big headache very much like the one i had for 5-6 days. Sorta as if my brain was sore from prolonged massive headaches and a very loud sound triggered heart beating in my head and ridiculous pain. Thankfully though it passed quickly. I will say finally, big lesson learned for the next time a nearly 103 degree fever hits or any fever for that manner.

I've pretty much abandoned my post at that website. I didn't own or operate it, I just moderated the primary board, although that entailed a lot of information compilation and analysis. It became tedious when I figured it wasn't going to take off due to IMO the management's decision to make it a wasteland by including obscure programs and placating every single request. Also, I just didn't get much assistance and it's not on my priority list right now. I do think that format could be a valuable resource to make following recruiting easier and less time consuming, but it needs more momentum and dedicated contributors.

Anyways, glad to hear you're over the flu and some of the suggestions were of some aid. I can attest to combating dehydration being tricky some times. I have an issue right now where I'll guzzle like 16 ounces of water before I try sleeping, and yet I wake up like 2-3 hours later with my mouth dry as the Sahara. Rinse repeat until I'm eventually up for the day. Then I try to drink a scanter amount to not induce pissing and I wake up dehydrated also. It's tough to find that middle ground.

Back semi on the topic of the thread....some personnel news regarding this weekend's game. It looks like standout LB Mike Taylor will finally be able to return from a major knee injury to start against SJSU. Unfortunately that could be counteracted by the loss of the little monster Chris Borland. He's questionable to play as of today. And it looks like Josh Oglesby's starting status at RT is tenuous. Walk-on Ricky Wagner is now co #1 with him on the depth chart. Ryan Groy should probably get the job instead, but Bielema seems to pigeon hole every 6'5" and below offensive lineman as a guard. I bet Bielema would waste Tauscher's talents inside also (as they did with the Badgers under Alvarez). Ryan Groy is every bit athletic enough to be a plus pass blocker at RT.

I'd hold Taylor and Borland out against SJSU. We could beat them by three TD's with the Morton year teams. Let them both get another week of rest before ASU.

It sounds as if there is no reason to play it safe with Taylor. He suited up against UNLV and could have played there if necessary, already. Shaking the rust off against an over-matched opponent is more beneficial than being cautious, in this case. Maybe you have a point about Borland, though.

Man, i'm always thirsty. Since i tend to wake up 2-3 times a night, i keep a bottle of water by the bed or sometimes juice. I have noticed that for whatever reason, almost anytime i drink water my mouth is bone dry 10-15 minutes later, not so from juice.

And it looks like Josh Oglesby's starting status at RT is tenuous.

I've wondered when this day would come. Sometimes i can't watch a game live so i DVR it. Here and there i'd rewind a series and focus just on Oglesby, often it was disappointing given his lofty status as a recruit. Josh is a huge guy, but probably to tall for his own good. His feet aren't that good and speed rushers can give him trouble. Plus, if he gets lazy with his technique, he doesn't bend enough and he loses leverage even if he dwarfs the guy he's blocking. He is a beast though blocking down on run plays.

I keep water by the bed also, but of course it does nothing for me while I'm sleeping. The only time it really behooves me to do so is when the cause of my waking isn't the urge to urinate, which it typically is.

I'm not surprised that juice is more beneficial in curbing dehydration, because they also include some sugar in Pedialyte, but I couldn't explain why it helps for certain. Sugar in a significant quantity is a diuretic. My guess would be though that at lower levels a person's system doesn't identify it as a toxin, but rather it's usable to the body in that quantity, and thus isn't prompted to be expelled from the blood stream, where it remains w/ water longer than even normal because of sugar's sticky and crystallized nature slowing its flow.

He's the same height as stalwarts like Thomas and Carimi. I'd guess making it more difficult to be flexible was the major knee injury Oglesby suffered in high school. And also he lacks the intensity to react quickly to a pass rushers movement and slide side to side accordingly.

But his ability to envelop would be tacklers in the running game shows he has a role with the team. It might be a good idea just to flip him and Groy from standard set and big package, respectively.

I heard Clay wants to be like Jim Brown, his favorite player, and actually wants to be that size. I think he needs to get more explosive and get in shape.

The reason why things like juice and Gatorade help to hydrate you rather than pure water is because water follows solutes. Think semi-permeable membrane in high school science. As your bowel absorbs sodium and sugar, water has to follow to maintain an isotonic balance. This is why you give Pedialyte to a baby with diarrhea or normal saline to a dehydrated person.
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

Figured you guys might be interested in this since you were discussing it earlier...

Wisconsin linebacker Mike Taylor will make his season debut Saturday against San Jose State, while linebacker Chris Borland will sit out.

Taylor, out since mid-October with a knee injury, is expected to start against the Spartans, coach Bret Bielema said after Thursday's practice. The redshirt sophomore tore his ACL last season against Iowa and sat out last week's opener against UNLV following another procedure in August.

He led Wisconsin with 46 tackles at the time of his injury.

Borland, the 2009 Big Ten freshman of the year, aggravated a right shoulder injury against UNLV. He underwent offseason surgery on the shoulder, but tests performed earlier this week showed no structural damage.

Bielema expects Borland back for next week's game against Arizona State.
