Wouldn't we only have three safeties then? :o

I don't know if Luke's talking about when Bigby gets back or immediately to sign Smith.

I'd say four with Bush, who IMO is no worse than Peprah and is a hybrid CB/S. It's not just about how many players you have at a position, if the back end players you are keeping at a position are waiver wire talent. We can find a Peprah off the waiver wire at any point if for some reason we needed to, IMO.

I don't know if Luke's talking about when Bigby gets back or immediately to sign Smith.

I'd say right now. I don't think he will be, but I think Peprah is waiver material.

I'm not a big fan of Peprah, but he is a hell of a lot better than Derrick Martin as far as playing safety goes.

Martin is a pretty damn good special teamer and a good emergency safety. I wouldn't want him as our third guy there though.

They are both equally bad at safety, IMO. Martin gets the nod because of ST. In terms of playing safety, we can get a player as good as those two on the wire if we want to.

Again, I'm not a fan of Peprah... But he is clearly better than Martin at safety. Overall impact when factoring in ST? I would say Martin is better.

Neither have played much, but both have looked completely lost when on the field. Neither would be a loss if it upgraded another spot. I'm not big on the "you need X at this position" argument, when the depth that is being used to get to the final number is really, really bad players. I'd rather have a surplus of talent at another spot. That is why we only keep 2 RB but keep 4 TE. If we can get a major, major upgrade at KR/PR, I'm fine with cutting a safety that can be replaced by a waiver wire pickup if an emergency arises. I don't think it will happen, but I'm just saying, I'd be cool with it. We can replace Peprah easily if needbe.

Peprah actually impressed me a bit this preseason. He made some pretty impressive plays in the games I watched. That doesn't mean I think he's going to all of the sudden blossom into an impact player on the field, but he clearly has ability.

I think Luke underrates Peprah as a safety and overrates Martin.

Just my opinion though. They are clearly both back-ups.

Martin should never have been moved from corner, IMO.

How the F am I overrating Martin when I said both sucked at safety? I said I'd keep Martin over Peprah based on ST, not because of how he played safety. I don't know what people are seeing in Peprah, but I see a player that can be replaced by a waiver wire safety. Same with Martin.

Where is Anthony Smith at right now? I still wish we would have hung on to him, he seemed like a decent back up safety.

Even if he did take too many risks.

Your overrating Martin by saying he is as good as Peprah at safety. :D

You REALLY like to argue don't you? You're really going to take issue with me saying both suck at safety by saying Peprah is clearly better? Really? There would be zero on field difference in our pass D regardless of which one of these scrubs was out there. If we ever got that deep into the depth chart at S we'd be screwed regardless. We can get a safety of EITHER of Peprah or Martin's caliber on the waiver wire.

If we ever got that deep into the depth chart?

They are our back-up safeties. If Burnett/Collins goes down or needs to take a play off, one of them will be on the field. :o

I'm not arguing, I'm just saying Peprah is a better safety than Martin is. In terms of overall impact I think Martin is a better player because of his ST ability. When Bigby comes off PUP, I would release Peprah over Martin, that way we would have a legit back-up safety.

I find it amusing how you constantly tell me that I really like to argue... You realize that you respond to my posts just as much as I respond to yours, right? Wouldn't that mean you also REALLY like to argue? :D
