Do you expect Brandon Rush to be a Pacer much longer?

Post#1 » by chube » Tue Sep 7, 2010 2:00 am

In an NBA.com writer's summer report card for the Pacers, he mentioned that Rush might be wearing out his welcome. He's been inconsistent (sometimes invisible) and added to it with this drug bust. So now that we have George who has a lot of upside and an underused SG in Dahntay Jones (who hopefully can regain that defensive wing presence he had in Denver), do you expect Rush to be around much longer?

I have always felt we'd thin out the wings because Larry said he'd like to balance out the roster before the season starts.

Remember Brandon's home did not get raided on a drug bust as you conveniently put it, but rather he smokes a lot of weed and has failed three mandatory tests.

Imagine if 'Sleepy Sam was mandated to piss in a cup, he would've failed everytime.

The Pacers almost traded Brandon Rush before even drafting Paul George if you remember. I don't think any player is untouchable, even a Granger could go at any minute for the right deal. However, i think it would have been tough to deal Rush unless we had gotten a very important piece and at the time DJ Augustin was the player in return, who would have become our future PG. Now, with his pot suspension, i think the Pacers are more disappointed in Rush as ever, but, i think he becomes harder to trade, due to the fact, teams know we want to trade him thus his value goes way down.

A similar problem Denver is facing right now with Carmelo Anthony. They could get a massive return for Anthony and i'm sure Denver has learned a lesson from Chris Bosh leaving Toronto and LeBrun James leaving Cleveland, that it really stings when these stars leave with nothing in return. However, with Anthony publicly stating he wants out, his value is dropping because teams know Denver is in a corner.

So, i think Rush will remain a Pacer, but, if things go south for the team this season or prior to next years draft, i think Rush will be dealt in a package deal as long as he stays clean and improves his game.

As a diehard fan, I'm hoping Rush sees the light and wakes up from his drug habits. Maybe he can turn it around and become the player that we all know he is cabable of becoming

If only weed was the one thing keeping him back. I think he's got a lot more confidence issues to work out.

I've been pessimistic all along that Rush is the answer at two guard. So the suspension didn't really change anything for me.

I do think he has talent, and I'd be pleased to see him make good with the Pacers. But my guess is that the team is going to wind up turning to someone else.

I never thought so either. I was always under the impression that unless Paul George did something unreal in his rookie year, especially early on, we would have Mike Dunleavy getting majority of the minutes at shooting guard and with George and Brandon Rush fighting for minutes as backups. With Rush suspended first 5 games, George will just get more time and single handily could dig Rush in even a bigger hole.

Have always liked the guy, but it's gotten to a pretty cut and dry point though. Try to package him for some value now. Like its been noted, that option has become harder with the drug suspension. If that can't be done, see if he can redeem anything through the first half of the season. If he can't do that (i don'think he can), try to move him again at the deadline. If that can't be done give him the Tinsley treatment and tell him to go home and "don't call us, we'll call you."... Buy out??

I think we can let Rush go next offseason without taking a cap hit.

Bird wants Magnum signed to the team. We obviously need to make room by removing at least one contract player. Who do you want removed from the WING position and why? Who is the Most marketable; maybe for a Draft Pick? I am not including Granger. If he should be included, make the argument.

D. Jones
Dunleavy

Obviously the 3 most likely to be dealt would be Rush, Dunleavy or Ford, if they find any suitors for any of them. Rush was almost dealt last deadline day, and Dunleavy and Ford have been discussed in trade talks this summer, according to Mike Wells.

I think he stays a Pacers for a while longer. The suspension lessens his value as a trade chip and moving him now would probably return very little. The Pacers have too much invested in him to give him away. And, even if his offensive game doesn't develop that much more he's a handy guy to have. Solid wing defender who can shoot the 3. That skill set alone is an excellent compliment to Granger and Dunleavy.

I'd look for a deadline trade for Mike D.

I expect he is our best player at the two spot this year and will look like a good addition and an expiring for a team looking for an edge.

He may therefore have the most value and is not in our long term plans.

His departure will free up time for the other guys after half a season to get aclimated.

I am hoping that either Stephenson or George will beat out Rush for the two spot by season end.

Rush will make a good back up there and George and Posey can spell Danny.
