Can you handle the Truf?

On a semi-related note, I saw the Hawks signed D.D. Lewis. Nice, I always liked that guy. I guess he learned he's not a starter in this league but can still contribute as a backup and special-teamer (lessons I suspect Niko Koutovides and Kevin Bentley will learn in the next couple of years).

More good news. I like the DD Lewis signing, too.

How would you rank the Hawks offseason moves so far, in kind of a 1) good move 2) not good move 3) huh, I'll have to wait and see?

I'll take a crack at this. How about:

Good move:
Lofa extension
Mike Wahle
Letting Josh Brown walk
DD Lewis
Releasing Alexander (okay, it hasn't happened yet but it's inevitable)
Putzier (low-cost, could be useful)

Not good move:
Not topping the market for Hackett
Not quickly finding a replacement for Brown (there's still the draft, though).

Huh, I'll have to wait and see:
Anointing Jim Mora Jr.
Franchising Trufant/giving him Asante Samuel money
Missing out on Crumpler
Extending Locklear (I like Locklear, but for the price?)
T.J. Duckett
Julius Jones

Anything I've forgotten?

Out of the wait and see list...there's nothing there that I really see as crippling if it ends up not working out in the Seahawks justification, and I can see the justification for each move.

The only move that I have trouble with is not keeping Hackett, who had injury problems and may very well be replaced in the draft.

I think this is a great contract for Trufant and the team. I have no doubt he would have been able to get the money he wanted elsewhere, and if he can keep up last year's level of play he's worth every penny.

I agree and am somewhat surprised that they didn't resign Hackett considering what he was had for. It seems that they either were concerned about his durablility, that there was something there about him that we don't know about, or that they are pleased with the progress of Obamanu.

I really liked the Wahle signing. It was quick and to the point; it filled a need, he was good quality, and wasn't the overpay Faneca would have been. I really gave kudos to Ruskell for moving decisively on that.

Losing Crumpler was a bit of a loss in that it reduced our draft flexibility a bit. I'm thinking Ruskell had a strategy here. He was either going to sign Crumpler, or if he didn't/couldn't, was going to go hard after the best FA RB he could get his hands on. I was just a little suprised that he went after TWO RB's, especially considering that Weaver showed some promise at the FB position last year.

In any case, it seems he accomplished what I believed to be a big part of his primary offseason strategy: sign a FA OL; resign Locklear; significantly shore up either the RB or TE position in the FA market. By doing these things, Ruskell did give himself a lot of flexibility in the draft by reducing the team's *dire* need to draft for a particular position in the first two rounds.

Is there any way we can get Mort Anderson?

I do like the Truf and Lofa signings. My only worry about either of them is that Truf might have "topped out", and prove to be a lusty signing. There was a lot of guaranteed moola in that contract, though it was structured beneficially for us in the short term.

DD Lewis...check. You can never have enough depth, and he might possibly play a big role on special teams.

The Mora thing was....hmm....interesting. This is something you certainly don't see much at all in professional sports. I'm trying to remember the last time I have. Definitely wait and see.
