iceness update (3-11)

--Keep an eye on the Vikings QB situation. They offered a 3rd for Sage Rosenfels but the Texans wanted more, and according to my agent friend they were the team that Derek Anderson used to leverage the Browns for a better deal. They keep insisting Tarvaris Jackson is the man but they're bringing in all the usual suspects of veteran castoffs and retreads (Leftwich, Harrington visited, Green visited, Carr) and they also seem inordinately interested in JP Losman. I've also heard they've approached the Eagles about any of their 3 QBs and what it would take to pry one of them loose. And yes, they are still kicking themselves for losing Tyler Thigpen, who I've heard will be given every chance to win the #2 job in KC.

17. Minnesota Vikings--If Derrick Harvey is gone they will take Calais Campbell. Forget WR or QB, it ain

It is possible. CB is very deep this year with very little seperation between the top handful. Whenever that happens you will have teams feel they can wait on it til the next round. Not saying it will happen, but it could.

deeney, I am not sleeping much at all. The product launch has me up all night.

here's icness's response to your question about DE's rev,

Icness wrote:I wouldn't get caught up in which side a DE can play...if he can get to the QB and hold the edge against the run, it doesn't matter left or right. With the DTs they have, they really need a guy who can hold the point of attack outside the tackles but also have the speed to beat the tackle one-on-one, or command TE help. Robison does that well and he played both sides at Texas. I'm not sure Campbell would be my pick, I much prefer Derrick Harvey for that type. Philip Merling projects as a LDE and that might be an even better fit, though I think he's never going to be more than about a 5.5 sack per season guy.

I am not a Calais Campbell fan, FYI.

That surprised me. Someone with his mind would understand that a LDE needs to be 15-20lbs more than a RDE because they are often facing double teams with the TE.

icness about the pepper's talk

Icness wrote:I know the two teams have talked--I don't know the specifics or how serious it might be. I do know the Panthers are not real thrilled about having to pay Peppers what he wants next summer.

I'd be surprised if there are any teams that aren't interested in Julius Peppers. Even though he did not play well, or hard, last year, he's still a freakish physical talent and a proven difference-maker at a key position.

another icey update

Sage could be a Viking any day now. I think (I can't say for sure) they will give up the 2nd to get Rosenfels. There is no earthly reason why the Texans would sign Gray if they planned on keeping Sage--and Sage knows that.

i do not want to surrender a 2nd rounder for sage, maybe a 3rd rounder.

2nd rounder is too high for a backup qb

I'm not a fan of trading a 2nd for a backup, either. Too many holes. I'd rather get Losman for a 3rd.

here's icness latest mock draft

17. Minnesota Vikings: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State

DRC has more than proven he can play with the big boys, and his pedigree (his cousin led the AFC in INTs) helps his cause. Adding to the secondary is imperative for a team that plays both DET and GB twice every season, even if the Lions will use the 4 wide set less often. I

I am not a fan of his draft. (for reasons said on his draft thread) Being our need for QB and the lack of talent out there I would be content for a 2nd for Sage.

cromartie would be good, but i thought the main focus was on DE, is there no one we're willing to go after in the first or are we just going best availiable

icness response to our DE questions

[quote]
Re: the Vikings...
1st round they are going to take the BPA on defense, even if it's a DT. In this scenario that player is DRC. It could also be Derrick Harvey. They are extremely apprehensive about taking yet another DE 1st round. They also believe (and I agree) that Brian Robison is going to blossom into an above-average rush end.

The TB DT overlaod resulted as part of the missing Adibi problem. The updated version will be posted sometime this afternoon. It also impacts the Vikings, Colts, Eagles, and Pats picks in the later portion.

icness latest mock version 6.0

17. Minnesota Vikings: Quentin Groves, DE/OLB, Auburn

His stock slid thanks to injury problems, but before he got hurt many regarded Groves as the premier pass rusher in this draft class. Groves has the elite speed off the edge the Vikings sorely need, though he needs loads of work against the run. The Vikings don
