Who the hell did we cut?

Post#1 » by TNBT » Tue Sep 7, 2010 1:43 pm

I'm reading all these threads saying we cut this guy or another, so can someone give me a list of everyone that we cut? That would be great.

Nevermind, I already found a list on the Bears site. I can't believe we cut Beekman and Gilbert. Those two guys are both still young and I thought they had a lot of talent. Guess we'll have to see how they go somewhere else.

So much for all of this "center of the future" and "don't worry, we have our kreutz replacement" talk. Of all the cuts, the Beekman one surprised me the most.

:nonono: Guilty as charged. I really beleived that they were grooming Beekman for that role. I was really shocked. Especially since he took all the 2nd team snaps at center. We now have no backup center. WTF!

I agree. As I said in my other post, I thought Gilbert and Beekman were two of the young guys we were going to build around. Our Offensive Line isn't exactly stacked or very deep, and we have no backup for Kreutz. I would have thought Beekman would have been a guy to hang onto. He may not play much this season, but in a year or two when we've lost guys like Kreutz and other veterans, letting Beekman go is going to look pretty foolish.

Let's give the coaching staff a little more credit than that. If Beekman was indeed the center of the future, they wouldn't have cut him. Tice is one of the best around so Cliff Levingston would defer to his expertise.

As for Gilbert, he's just another athletic freak who didn't show anything in his extended year here. A couple sacks against 3rd stringers in a preseason game isn't enough to make up for two horrible camps and general lack of knowledge about the game of football.

One guy that has impressed Cliff Levingston a bit and has since the beginning is Matt Toeaina. He doesn't have a ton of talent of dominating physical skills but he works his ass off to make plays. He'll be a sizable part of the DT rotation this year especially with Marcus Harrison continuing to underwhelm.

I think the coaching staff knows that they have to win this season or bust, so they are more willing to just let guys who haven't come around yet go. They want to look at new guys (especially linemen) and see what Tice can do with them.

The Gilbert cut should really be the last indictment on Lovie and JA's ineptitude. Supposedly, he was cut because he couldn't fit in the Bears system because he projects more as a player in a 3-4 defense.

You'd think something like that would be noticed by watching him on tape or during the combine. smh Ironically, he was immediately picked up by the Jets, who coincidentally run a 3-4 defense.
Just a must-watch army of possessed ass-kickers laying the smack down night after night after night. People are gonna hate playing the Bulls this year.

We haven't had a backup center for awhile. Tentatively, its Garza, and its been that way for years. Not looking good for backup Center.
