Next Manager of the Jays

Getting close to the end of the season wondering who you all think would be a good fit for the blue jays.

I think Ron Gardenhire would be a great manager for the team but hes not leaving the Twins any time soon so.

There are 4-5 guys out there with significant careers left who are cream of the crop(another 5 ancient guys who were great but are retiring or done IMO), but they aren't going anywhere and I'd probably include Gardenhire in that group (Gardenhire, Scoscia, Girardi, Maddon).

This is a pretty big hire IMO. Hopefully the big scouting staff has been used on some managerial prospects too, 'cause I don't see the Jays poaching an established guy or drawing the biggest names with so many vacancies up this year. The inter-cito years were so full of coaching changes, I'd sure like to see AA find the guy who can do the job for the next decade. I have no idea how likely this is, but some stability (and a little creativity?) at the spot sounds great to me.

If we are promoting a guy from nowhere, he has to be able to command respect from the team. As much as I liked Gibby, he was destined to fail because he was never more than a backup catcher and bullpen coach. An established coach would be my preferred route, but as satyr said - too many vacancies in big markets (including some possibly opening up (Boston?))

If the Cubs don't hire Ryne Sandberg, I would definitely look at him.

Ryno is a candy ass - he won't succeed as a manager.

Key challenges for the next Jay manager is to keep Yunel Escobar from flaking out, motivating Vernon Wells to stay in shape, getting Arencibia/Snider into everyday roles, and manage whatever goat rodeo of a bullpen he's endowed with in 2011. I think only a manager who's won at least a few playoff series will have the necessary credibility.

Getting Hill and Lind back on track is not something a manager can do - just gotta throw them out there and hope for the best.
