Fantasy BBall Rule Change voting

Here is what I suggested if we wanted to keep 5 players and have a draft lottery:

As an incentive, the top 3 teams get to keep 6 players, while everyone else keeps 5 (you'll see in just a bit how this will work out).

This is what I came up with (based on how this season ended):

6. Snapping Beavers - 5% chance
7. The Wolf Pack - 8% chance

9. The Team to Beat - 27% chance
10. Lightning - 45% chance

After the Lottery happens, we then pick in reverse order, but only the lottery picks + 5th and 4th i.e.

from this point on, the lottery then goes like this:

and then:

etc.

What does this exactly accomplish? We give the bottom teams a chance (basically the worst record almost has a 50% chance at the No.1 pick), while at the same time protecting the top 3 teams of the league (they keep their top 6th man so to speak)... well, you might say; isn't this basically the same thing as having the top 3 records pick first... actually no, because what happens is that 7 teams have to keep 5 players, which leaves 7 good players to the pool, granted the top 3 records basically get to keep a first round pick for free, but that's when the second round of the draft comes it, because it then starts in reverse order based on the worst record, just think of the NBA Draft's 2nd round and you'll get the idea.

Also, some other things I wanted to bring forth. In the off-season before we announce our keepers, we can still trade with other players, without mentally limiting yourself to the amount of keepers (i.e. you have 7 great keepers, and you wanna make a 2 for 1 deal so that you can get a better overall guy that the two you're dealing, and someone will deal you, lets say LeBron for 2 players with great upside, like real rebuilding teams).

Ehh...I feel like I'd rather have teams still start with 4 and then if we want to do that lottery for 5 keepers, then maybe. Smills is the one that really wanted to keep more players anyway.

However, IIRC my roster, I'm not sure I'd want to keep 5 anyway. I'd rather have a high draft pick, personally.

6 keepers for the top teams? That's getting greedy in my opinion and not fair to the bottom teams. I'm with mitch. Start with 4 keepers, top 3 teams get 5 keepers, and then use the lotto system if everybody wants. Essentially what einz proposed, but one less keeper.

And as far as my roster, I have plenty of keepers, but it's my belief that you should win mostly on your drafting ability and such, and it's better for competition that way as well.

I will say that the proposed plan is well thought out. I could live with it if that's the way the majority goes. That said, I'm fine with just keeping 4. When you look at the fantasy quality of players in the 40-50 range (the players most likely to go from unprotected to protected), you don't really see a lot who will make or break somebody's season. This group includes guys like Bargnani, Murphy, Deng and Ginobili. Sure, they're solid performers...but nobody that screams to me as "must haves". Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

looks like almost all of the votes are in... and by the looks of it it will probably the old way (keep 4 and do draft in winning order; top 3 at least) I have no problem with it.

How about a blend of sorts...top 3 teams keep a 5th player and skip the 1st round. Run the lottery the way you proposed above and run the first round similar to the way you've proposed. This way the top 3 have an incentive for winning (other than bragging that I'm better than Mobi). In many practical ways this is essentially how it has been done in the past. The twist is that the top 3 guys are limited to selecting the 5th guy from their ending roster vs. having the first shot of poaching from the rosters of others.
