This thread is for all of those NFL fans out there, I hope I'm not the only one! Discuss all the games here Sundays & Monday nights.

Thoughts?

You do know that there is another set of boards dedicated to football?

viewforum.php?f=247

ICMTM and Mitch will make the call about whether to have this here...but I do know that the site's priority is to make sure those forums stay active.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Yes I do, only problem is, those boards are not very active at all. So I thought I'd open one in a basketball forum, I hope to keep it around, I watch NFL every Sunday, I just want something to talk about plus I know there are some NFL fans out there that are open for discussions.

I was very surprised that the 49ers came out and played so horribly. I think they were still in that preseason mode and forgot to wake up for the regular season. All is well, it's only week one and they have a whole week to wake up, prepare for their next opponent. I really expect them to take the NFC West, but time will tell, that's why they play Sunday's.

They went 4-0 in preseason... if they were in preseason mode they would have won. I think they have too many expectations on them.

Maybe so, but don't look too much into preseason, the Colts usually never win in preseason, that tells you enough there. As for expectations, I think it's still to early, yes they are expected to win their division but when you look at how easy Arizona's schedule is, they might, just might sneak in there, so it's still up in the air.

I'm losing faith in Alex Smith, and the inexperience of the O-line showed a little bit.

He sucked today but our whole team sucked. From coaching/play calling to our secondary getting burned, and our WRs, ugh. Crabtree cost us 14 points because the OC said he ran the wrong route on the 2nd one that went for 6 and then he had the other INT that led to a TD bounce off his friggin hands. Smith left too many throws out on the field, and wasn't as accurate as he should've been, which is odd considering he started off 9/10. Our OLine got no push and got Gore bottled up. Our crappy Corners got burned. Just overall a **** game, we need to get our stuff together ASAP to have any chance vs NO.

It's strange to see the exact same thing happen year after year and see people still surprised. Every year for the last five years or so it's been the exact same thing in the training camp and preseason Alex Smith looks great, the defense looks great, the receivers look good, etc. Then once the games actually become important people are shocked when the niners suck. (I'm a San Fransisco fan incidentally.).

In fact there's an interesting similarity with how the Kings seasons have played out the last couple of years. It worries me to see so many ( maybe not a lot but far more than I'd expect) people think the Kings have a realistic shot at the playoffs. Because I know that once the Kings obviously aren't there's going to be a backlash and the board is going to become overwhelmed with calls to "trade everybody" (in fact I recall a certain poster, who will remain nameless, suggesting after the first game last year that Tyreke was a bust, and the Kings should trade anyone to get Stephen Jackson.).

As for the 49ers & Alex Smith, I never found Alex Smith to be nothing special, yet the Niners kept him around year after year. He really is holding them back I feel, they should look to draft a QB or trade for one if they want to go to the postseason. Offense was not clicking, running game was non-existant.

Baltimore/New York tonight & SD/KC. Who you all have?

I have the Jets & Chargers winning tonight, I also want to see what the rookie Ryan Mathews can do.

This may not mean much but the Seahawks did have Jeff Ulbrich(LB for the 9ers the last 6 seasons) as a defensive assistant coach. Michael Robinson(Special Teams Captain and back up RB) who was just cut from the 9ers and Scott Mcloughin(spelling?) who the director of player personel so it wasnt like the Hawks just flat out beat us, they had inside information.

What a Monday night! Both games were down to the last play and that's what the NFL is all about. I couldn't believe Baltimore's physicality against the Jets, they really dominated them on the defensive end, 1-11 on 3rd downs? Baltimore is for real, but I'm sure we all knew that already. How bout those Chiefs? What a performance, new stadium, division foe, weather conditions. This game became more entertaining towards the end, it was 21-7 for the longest time, then SD made a nice little comeback. Credit Kansas City for getting a game winning stop on 4th & Goal. Overall, both games I enjoyed very much, you just never know who can win a game week in and week out. I already can't wait til next Sunday for Week 2.
