OT: Jennings blames shoes for USA snub

Post#1 » by smalik02 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 4:16 pm

"It's not my call. That's on them," Jennings said. "But if you want to get technical about it and you really want to look at it, half of the guys there are Nike guys. I'm not saying it's a Nike thing, but Nike is kind of running a lot of things right now. To have a guy like myself on the USA team that's flashy and really outgoing, you don't want Under Armour to get all that [publicity].

Jennings is a smart guy. Look at all the free media he is getting for his sponsor. There is no way I would have known he wears Under Armour shoes otherwise. I didn't even know Under Armour made basketball gear. I bet he will get a fat cheque for this.

Marbury much? That has been my impression of him since last year.

Marbury or Barkley? Kid's telling it like it is here

Of course, it's also likely a not-so-massive coincidence, most ballers wear Nike and the gold medal US team didn't have any major snubs, including Jennings

Probably just reaching for reasons why he was left off the roster. Seems pissed at the fact that he wasn't "overlooked" but moreso that he just wasn't good enough to make the team and is blaming it on something entirely irrelevant. There are players that aren't with Nike on that team and there are nike players who didn't play much at all despite being on the team. So what now? Nike just brought them in to get TV shots of their shoes while sitting on the bench? Cmon Jennings. You're a chucker and that's what they saw this year and why you're not on the team. Shoot, they didn't even play Granger much and Granger >>>>> Jennings.

I completely agree. We didn't miss out when we passed on Jennings at all. He'll put up some good numbers but in the end the guy is and will be proven to be a selfish cancer, but that's just my opinion.

Well put. That really is the question when you look at this kid's behaviour (and the possible holes in his game) over the last couple of years.

For me the jury's still out. I'd definitely feel more comfortable with Curry or Evans, but I'm not throwing Jennings under the bus until I see him trying to tell Bogut it's his team.

Not sure if that will be the case but I agree that he doesn't seem like a guy who has the size or skill to become the best player on a champion or adapt to being a second or third banana in order to help the team. Personally I doubt that Derozan will ever put up the stats that Jennings does (or be as good) but I can see him fitting in on a very good team when he's in his prime - either as the 2nd best player or the 7th best player.

I kinda feel the same way about Tyreke Evans as I do about Jennings.

Bogut would eat him if he did that.

But, I don't see Jennings becoming a Marbury 2.0. He's shown that he's a pretty smart kid. Sure, he has little control of his mouth, but that doesn't mean he'd go off and tattoo a "starter" logo on the side of his head. I think people are forgetting just how brain-dead Marbury was. That guy had rocks for brains, lol.

Better get that bus pass ready because I see this happening sooner rather than later. Kid's got two eg(g)os and a baked potato on his shoulder. He scored 15 points on 15 shots last year (19pts on 17 shots in playoffs) while shooting .371 during the season (.408 during playoffs)...does that really give him any right to think he should be a shoo-in for Team USA? How about him taking 6 3-pointers every game during the playoffs despite hitting only 30% of them? Do you think they want that kind of player running Team USA's offense? It's not as if his playmaking or rebounding or defensive abilities are better than anyone on the team; and as a scorer, he's pretty much a chucker, not a team player etc.. I wouldn't even want him on this Raps teams, friends with Demar or not.

Marbury could play though. He's much better than Jennings, he just had a run of injuries and coaching issues which presumably helped to push him over the edge. Despite a few crappy years in NY and Boston, he still has career averages of .433 .325 .784, 19.3 pts, 7.6 asts, 3reb, 1.2 stl, and for many years was a .440, .800, 22pt, 8 ast, 3 reb, 1.5 stl player, which is more than I expect Jennings will ever attain. I fit it hard to think of guys in the league who average 20+ points, 7+asts, 1+ stl per game these days without getting into the superstar level. The closest I can compare him to is Russell Westbrook - and that's a pretty nice comparison since Westbrook >>>> Jennings.

1) Because he plays for Milwaukee.

2) Aren't we all Li Ning fans in Toronto?

Smart guy? You're just over analyzing. He's an idiot who's upset because he didn't have a spot. So now the he has the need to play the blame game.

People give these guys WAY too much credit. If there were more white guys playing for the states, I guarentee he would of pulled the race card
