Yeah, I would be shocked & pleasantly surprised if he somehow managed to break into the rotation this season. But I worry about the switch to PF. He may be athletic enough to play the 4, but skill wise he's years away from getting there.

The comparisons to Petro, Mahinmi & Ajinca honestly scare the crap out of me though. That's a worse case scenario. Ajinca & Petro can't get playing time because they suck. Mahinmi has shown some talent but not necessarily the IQ or discipline to succeed.

I get the impression that the issues with Seraphin are from lack of experience rather than a lack of discipline or IQ. If he looks similar 2 or 3 years down the road, then I would be concerned about those areas. I don't expect much in the short-term, but it looks like he has the physical and mental tools to be a successful project. I think in a couple years a bigs rotation of Blatche, McGee and Seraphin could be very formidable.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... -kevi.html

Seraphin's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, said his client has received his work visa and arrived in Washington on Saturday.

Ndiaye said that Seraphin would begin rehabbing with the Wizards' training staff on Sunday.

When asked if Seraphin was pleased to finally have his paperwork completed to come to the United States, Ndiaye said, "Of course."

The Wizards have 12 players under contract heading into training camp, and that likely will not change much over the next few weeks. They have extended training camp invites to Lester Hudson and Cartier Martin, but the team has not decided whether it will enter the year with 13, 14 or 15 players.

The Wizards are unlikely to sign second-round pick Hamady Ndiaye for the upcoming season, according to a league source. They still retain his rights, but the source said that Hamady Ndiaye is also looking into playing overseas next season. The 6-foot-11 center whom Coach Flip Saunders affectionately likes to call, "H," had an uninspiring showing in summer league, as he averaged just 3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in limited minutes. He had nine points, seven rebounds and four blocks in the finale against New York, but the Wizards are not pressed to put him in uniform just yet.

LOL the whole time I read that article, I was thinking to myself "Damn, Hamady Ndaiye is not only a player, but he's Seraphin's agent? That's a nice setup."

If anyone is going will you please take your tape measure and a weight scale? It's time to put Seraphin's measurements to rest. 6'9'' with shoes, without? 258, 264, 278?

I might go. When do they start offering partial season ticket plans? I'm interested this year.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it!

I think Kevin will either be a Nene type of player, bang, awesome dunker, decent rebounder or a Ronny Turiaf block shots, play solid defense & hustle hustle hustle.

closg00,

i got no skin in this game really but I'm struck by what a great deal
season tix are. I get the cheapo $31 lowers along the end line so
my 2 seats cost 62x41 = $2600/yr for 82 tickets. They're decent but
not great seats. They ARE in the lwr lvl which I def prefer unless you're
talking front 1-3 rows of 400 lvl or almost anywhere in the club lvl (those
are nice seats!).

I just got a friend here at work prs of tix to 3 'premium' games MIA, LAL, BOS
and for 2 of the games, he got upper lvl (no other choice). His price $460.

I doubt I'll go to 41 games but I had reasonable success last year on CL selling games
that I either couldn't go to or chose not to. I probably recovered $500-600
from my initial outlay by not going to the LAL game (couldn't stomach the Kobe fans)
or the BOS games (I had competing commitments).

Went to the Open-House last tonight and here are my observations on the night:

Kevin Seraphin speaks some English, but needed some assistance writing-out names for the autographs, eventually they asked that people write their names on a sheet of paper for Kevin to copy.
Kevin's interpreter is a French-speaking Wiz staffer. I spoke with the interpreter and he says that Kevin already understands basic basketball concepts in English and that Kevin is not receiving any formal English instruction.

Good news to report on the character-front, since I speak French, I chatted up Kevin's mom who was there snapping pics. She told me that Kevin is a good kid and doesn't go-out to clubs etc, he's a homebody who likes to hit the gym and go to practice. She also said that woman are after Kevin, trying to slip him their digits etc...they did the same thing in France she said, but Kevin is being careful. She won't be in the states too-long because she has to go back and watch after Kevin's younger brother(s).

The interpreter said that Kevin did weigh-in at over 270 at some point. As has been reported, the dude has a thick lower-torso and big legs, his arms are long and he has huge hands, it was interesting to see him sitting next to Hilton Armstrong, he looked bigger. Armstrong btw loves it here and would love to stick around, but they all say that.

Edit: Remembered more stuff. During the locker-room visit, I noted the Orberto still had a locker with his name plate still in-place. I asked a staffer about it and they said the O comes-in for workouts etc. Doesn't mean he's coming back, but that door remains open I suppose.

The locker-room facilities are indeed small and unimpressive, I've seen better at Bally's. I recalled Gils comments about how the better Orgs went the extra mile to give their players a really nice workout space etc. I can see why he works-out in Chicago.

I dont think most people in OKC were expecting much from Ibaka right away either and look at what he did. If this kid comes in and works hard he will earn more and more minutes. Its a young team and his competition is McGee and Booker.

He must have legs like tree trunks. It's going to be ridiculous in a couple of years once he fully matures physically and he has spent a few offseasons in an NBA weightlifting program. He'll be Dejuan Blair plus another 2.5 inches in standing reach and better hops.

Code: Select all

Name            Year     Ht. NoSh   Wt.    Wngspn    Reach
Dejuan Blair    2009     6' 5.25    277    7' 2      8' 10.5
Kevin Seraphi   2010     6' 9       275    7' 3      9' 1

Poor McGee is going to get awful sore having to guard him in practice.

Ibaka also spent a year overseas after he was drafted IIRC.
