Re: Wizard 2010 Training Camp Count Down Sept 28th
Looks like Lester Hudson will be in Wiz camp. He tweets he's been in Chicago working out with Gilbert. On the potential negative, he seems to think he tore up Gilbert and other 'top dogs' in scrimmage.
I like Hud though. Even if we look thick with PG talent right now. I'll still look for good things in camp. Maybe he forces a roster spot.

Things he left out.
Boston wasn't on that list but they were good.
Also, Dray can extend his range to 3. Nick is capable of getting it going from 3. Nick is a pure shooter. He hit .406 last year.
So that's Gil, Nick, Kirk, and Dray with Gil, Kirk and Nick being the higher volume 3 shooters.
They have others who are capable of hitting them that I wouldn't consider sharp shooter in Howard, AT, Yi but I hope we are taking it to the rack more then launching 3s. Thats what leads to more fouls.
You really only have a few players who you really don't ever want shooting from out there and they are bigs like McGee and Seraphin. That said, I remember reading that McGee has 3 range. He just doesn't shoot from out there thank God.
With how much driving skills and fast break skill they have, that should be enough. Now if Wall can continue to extend his shot and keep people honest with a 3 shot here and there, that would change a lot. I expect Wall to add that skill over time so I'm not really worried out our 3 ball shooting.
Hard to worry about 3s when you have Gil who will shoot enough of them when he and Wall aren't driving. And Dray can play off the wing to create offense. Then if Kirk or Nick are in the game you add more range.
We should be fine on offense. Specially when you add in the fact that we should be running a lot more.

Kirk Penney, New Zealand -- Any NBA teams in need of a shooting guard should consider bringing Penney to camp. The ex-Wisconsin star averaged 24.7 points (on 45.8 percent shooting) for the Tall Blacks. He didn't inflate his stats against pushovers, either. Penney scored 37 points against Lithuania and pumped in 21 apiece against Spain and Russia. At 6-5, 212 pounds, Penney has good size for a two-guard. Playing in the NBA Development League last season, Penney had games of 31 and 40 points for Sioux Falls and averaged 21.3 points in the playoffs with the SkyForce.

All the ways Kirk can be used and why he was a great add to the team.
n the end, I'm guessing Hinrich will spend a little more time at shooting guard, since Arenas will handle the ball more than Gordon did in Chicago. I think a 40/60 split between point guard and shooting guard sounds about right this season. However, it remains to be seen just how many minutes per game Flip Saunders will invest in a Hinrich-Young backcourt. Depending on how well Wall and Arenas mesh, Hinrich could see more time at the point with Young if Saunders wants to keep his starters' minutes more consistent with one another.
Figuring out how wall Wall and Arenas fit together with one another is a discussion for another day, but regardless of how that pans out, Kirk Hinrich will find a way to fit in with whoever he's playing beside. As long as injuries don't throw rotations out of whack this season, Ernie Grunfeld may have finally found the guy he's been looking for to be the team's top guard coming off of the bench.

I plan on addressing them throughout the week, beginning on Tuesday.
Before I get started, I wanted to hear from you guys, to get a sense of what concerns you heading into training camp. Drop me a line, I look forward to your feedback. We should have some fun this week.

The only question I have is whether Ernest Grunfeld will win NBA Executive of the Year this year or next. It really is that simple.
The Wizards bandwagon has been energized with a new battery (Wall) and a rebuilt transmission (Blatche, McGee, Hinrich, Jianlian). The man's eye for talent is unparalleled!

Oh wow. That post seems almost unreal. I wanna know which one of EG's underlings posted that. "Ernest"??? It's just so over-the-top it can't be real.
That's one of the main reasons I can't post there too much. Too many wacky posters saying the most outlandish things.

It's not me, but I love his posts. He's had some classic ones over the last few seasons and he's always been on the right side of the EG issue. Just a great poster IMO. Heck, I bet he'd use emoticons of the Post had them!

The Bucks did pretty-well last year, their moves since have been for role/bench help. The Boykins moves was questionable, Hobson and Gallon are fine non-guaranteed try-outs.

Seemingly taking a cue from Mike Shanahan and Albert Haynesworth, Flip Saunders is requiring every player to pass a conditioning exam before participating in training camp in two weeks. Saunders wants the Wizards to be a running team next season, so he is making his players run four sets of 10 full-court sprints, with 2 ½ minute breaks between each set. Guards have to complete each set in an aggregate time of 57 seconds.
Arenas may have been less than enthusiastic about playing for the Wizards several months ago, but guess who was the first player to complete the conditioning exam? Yep, Arenas. According to a league source, he finished the first set in 42 seconds.

Training camp concerns Part I: What can the Wizards expect from Gilbert Arenas?
Multiple league sources report that Arenas is back in much better shape than he was at this time last year, which makes sense because he is another year removed from his third knee surgery. He's slimmer after packing on a few pounds in the days leading up to his sentencing and he also had another summer working under Tim Grover in Chicago. From talking to people, that 50-game suspension was probably a blessing in disguise since it forced him to get the rest he needed since he was unnecessarily pushing his knee beyond the limits last season, according to sources, for the sole reason of trying to prove that he was back.
With Wall running the show, Arenas will be freed from the burden of balancing making decisions for the team and going for his. Now, Arenas can simply focus on scoring, which plays more into his natural instincts. With Arenas moving to shooting guard, he also won't have to worry about defending the quicker point guards in the league, ones like Tyreke Evans, who gave him so much trouble last season. Yes, the 6-foot-4 Arenas will have to contend with shooting guards who are much taller and stronger, but those bigger guards will also have to deal with him on the other end.
Saunders implemented a two-guard offense near the end of last season, and while he will use some of those plays, the plan is for Arenas to routinely spell Wall from ball-handing duties, especially if there comes a time when Wall gets overwhelmed. And, with a rookie point guard trying to handle Saunders's complicated offense and pressure from opposing teams looking to fluster him, you can bank on that happening a few times.

Seriously though, we may see a completely different Nick Young out there in a running set.

Gil at SG
Dray off to set the record straight.
Flip 2nd year and running a camp with expectations.

I don't mind us being a running team. We got the personnel to do it, if we put up plenty of points we will be really fun to watch this year. When we need to score in the half court, we have Gil/Blatche to take care of that.

What will Blatche do for an encore?
He will become the best young power forward in the NBA, that's what!
With more weapons on the team this year, his scoring might decrease from that of his 32-game binge, but I expect his rebounds, assists and blocks to go up.
He IS the crown jewel of Ernest Grunfeld's tenure with the Wizards and he will soon be accompanied by other gems recently unearthed by Ernest: Wall, Seraphin and Booker.
Wear sunglasses as you enter Verizon Center this season or the sparkle and brightness of the Wizards' precious stones will blind you!

How was John Wall an "unearthed gem" when he was the consensus #1 pick?

Don't try to apply logic to any of Mrs. Grunfeld's posts
